TRon Posted October 7, 2008 Share Posted October 7, 2008 Keegan wanted another left back (Warnock?) but our first choice Enrique is under pressure for his place from Bassong and we also have Zog who can fill in (badly usually). Though am I totally incorrect in thinking Taylor played at RB regularly for the U21's? Or was he just often the right side of a back 3? There's quite a few positions we need to fill, the problem is no club is realistically going to go out and fill 12 or so positions in one Summer apart from Chelsea when Abramovich took over, next Summer Butt, Owen, Viduka, Harper, Cacapa and Edgar are out of contract and will need replacing as well as the positions we already need too fill. We also needed a creative midfielder and a back up striker for Viduka, which we got on transfer deadline day which KK wasn't too happy with by all accounts. It was the fullback area's where we were genuinely short on numbers. Very true. There's a lot of hindsight going on now with regards to transfer dealings and cover for various positions. Check the Warnock thread and you'll see that a large number didn't want him and many didn't want a LB at all saying that we should stick with Enrique and if we signed another player it should only be as understudy to him. It's arguable whether that's what Bassong is, but he currently looks a better option at LB than Enrique anyway. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

From Taylor's performance on Sunday, whilst he isn't defensively sound, he wasn't defensively sound at centre back so at least at full back he offers something on the offensive side of things, which he seems fairly good at.
