Bannsong and Col first choice and Taylor as back up. agree.. but I'm rather pessimistic on Kinnear identifying our blindingly obvious main weakness - midfield.. The French defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at St James Park during the 2001/02 season, when he made 28 Premier League appearances. United were keen to take him on a permanent deal from Paris St Germain that summer, but the player instead opted to sign for Manchester City. Distin moved to Portsmouth when his contract expired in 2007, but reports are now suggesting the Magpies hope to take the 31-year-old back to Tyneside in a £3million deal this month. smacks of desperation 3mil for a 31yr old,btw carlisle boards are claiming Westwood to us for 4mill and they want to keep Krul I'd say £3m for the services of an experienced defender who can play CB or LB for the next 3 or 4 years is pretty good business. I watched Valencia recently and I'm not sure if I was seeing things but Miguel looked as if he had grown another belly. Looked to have put on some serious weight. steve_69 Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 One of the reasons Distin cited for not joining us all those years ago was because we kept playing him at left back whereas Man City wanted to play him in his favoured position - Centre Back. Distin has tunred us down twice already so i doubt he's jumping at the chance to join us now, especially if we're planning to play him at left back.
