Martinez's Wigan move hits glitch

 

Roberto Martinez's unveiling as Wigan's new manager has hit a glitch over compensation for members of Swansea's backroom staff.

 

Latics chief executive Brenda Spencer told a news conference: "We haven't spoken about other staff with Roberto until late last night.

 

"Until we get hold of the chairman from Swansea [Huw Jenkins] there's not really much we can do."

 

"We've tried the club, he's not there and he's not answering his mobile."

 

She added: "I know he's a very busy man and does not work full-time at the club."

 

"I really don't know the chairman of Swansea. I wouldn't like to think he is doing it deliberately."

 

No deal will be completed before next week despite initial hopes it could be done by Friday, but Spencer was confident Martinez would be installed as manager with or without his backroom staff.

We want Speed to go in and prove he's not up to it. Swansea could have potentially been a promotion rival under Martinez.
