TaylorJ_01
Phil Airey can't stop scoring. If he really put the effort in he could, just look at Alan Smith. I always got the impression he was a defender/midfielder. It seems like they stuck him up for a laugh but he is actually scoring heaps.

Thespence
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler added a handful of trialists to his side, with Lance Cronin continuing in goal and Stanley Aborah again appearing. Aborah was to limp off in the second half with a hamstring injury. Hessenthaler also got a look at Newcastle United youngster Darren Lough, at left back, and Trinidad striker Jason Norville. Pilko
I thought Lough might make it, Allardyce seemed to fancy him as a player.

Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Good appointments in Stone and Beardsley, though wonder if Stone is pulling double shifts with the youth team still (Nike Cup next week).
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Academy and Reserve parts have been 'slightly' updated, with released players finally removed and space for 1st year scholars. http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/AcademyHome/0,,10278,00.html

madras
Happy about this like.. good news why ? smacks of jobs for the boys and there was a lot of disharmony over his last spell of working with the kids (which most of the reserves will be)
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Happy about this like.. good news why ? smacks of jobs for the boys and there was a lot of disharmony over his last spell of working with the kids (which most of the reserves will be) Difference now is that Beardsley has Joe Joyce's ethos to work under/towards, so it'll be the established style the Academy has been pushing the last few years. The allegations of bully that were thrown towards Beardsley last time, I'm led to believe, were more to do with him treating the kids like adults and demanding too much from them. Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Well, I was touching on that with 'demanding too much' part of his training (which can be classed as physical bullying), but this was over 5 years ago. If you've read Nzuzi's blog, he raves about the training with Beardsley. Obviously, its in Nzuzi's interest to do so since its a public blog, but in 5 years a lot can change, guess we'll see how it goes. Though all I saw of Beardsley last season was him collecting balls during the Academy games, offered little advice, though that could be because he wasn't the manager. You say its Jobs for the Boys, but who else on the payroll would have taken the job? It was always going to be internal. Who are Beardsley and Stone apparently mates with, who could sway the decision for them? Steve Stone had done an amazing job in 12 months by all accounts (taken the U15s to the Nike Cup), so I'm glad for him he's being allowed to move up. Could be the case that Beardsley has picked him out of Friendship, which would fall into your Jobs for the Boys tag, but still doesn't explain Beardsley's initial appointment. Dave hit it on the head when he said 'cheap'.
