Mike Williamson (now managing MK Dons)

Recommended Posts

He's our best midfielder, we should be looking to get him tied down well before the summer.

I agree with the first bit, but he has to reassure us once again that he won't be picking up silly suspensions like this one especially when he has such a high wage.

I'd probably give Barton another contract but I wouldn't say he was our best midfielder.

who would you say is?

You could say Tiote, but he's not a midfielder. He's a madman who is a defender/midfielder/striker. He's everything.

Rather than meaningless arguements over who is best why not make it simple. If you wouldnt offer Barton a contract and let him walk away how much would it cost to get a player in of equal/greater talent? Now ask yourself how likely that would be with our current regime.....

And that's not meaningless?  How can anyone say how much a replacement would cost?  I bet no-one thought we could get a player as good as Tiote for £3.5m.  Barton at £6m was hardly a snip considered the money in wages we've paid, I can't see why we can't scout a player who would be on less wages than Barton and at a similar level ability-wise, in 1.5 years.

We can't even afford an assistant manager never mind a scout.

We've got scouts already.

My point was we would be letting a good player go for nothing and spending good money to replace him which could be well served on more pressing areas of the pitch. We have had about 3 years to scout any LB as backup so you will forgive me if i dont share your confidence.

He's certainly not a striker  Must be a fault in the programming. Maybe it'll be sorted in the patch.

He's as slow as defenders come, man. To say he has no glaring weaknesses is daft. He's also weak and very, very poor on the ball.

Just about everyone bar Colocho agrees that he was an absolute bargain. As for it being a 'great' partnership, we all know better.

fucking hell man

What exactly do you disagree with? Or have you just had another shit week stocking shelves and want exact retribution on society through antagonizing folk on here. Grow up.

I agree with Ronaldo on this Williamson thing. Honestly, I think Ronaldo's being to fair on Williamson because hes shit (Williamson).

Thank you.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. But nice try :aww: Good on you making it personal too

I disagree with the lot. I think your opinions on Williamson are extremely harsh. I don't think he's poor on the ball at all. And he's as 'weak' as Coloccini is.

They compliment each other quite well. Colo is quick and skillfull, Williamson is stronger and more of a 'classic defender' = good partnership.

Yeah, I'm being extremely harsh for saying he's a bargain and an OK PL defender.

It is harsh when you accompany that with comments about him being slow, weak and poor on the ball.

That, and the suggestion earlier in the thread that all of our poor defending is pretty much down to him. "Four more against Arsenal. I'm surprised we've not seen Campbell partner Colo sooner" - that's ridiculously harsh, especially considering Colo didn't even play against Chelsea or Arsenal.

Meh, I like Williamson. Sound defender, that gets on with his defending. Sometimes gets caught out with the ball at his feet, not spotting passing options quick enough (which resorts to the often used hoof to Carroll). However, I think he reads the game well (defensively), sure, not up to a great defender's standard, but better then some. Like Johnny mentioned I think he compliments Colo pretty well, they have a good Stopper and Cover partnership going, but can switch to flat back 4 offside style too.

Not sure who it was that inspired the use of the offside, certainly first time I can remember the Toon using it. Perhaps it was Hughton, but he'd have had to have talked to his defence about it to see if they were 'clued up' enough to use it.

Would people feel comfortable with two Colo types playing at CB?

Or is it simply a case of them wanting Campbell to come in at the first sign of any issues? Campbell is old now, he's nearly 10 years old then Williamson, he's not the long term replacement/Answer. Williamson can still develop and could be around for a long time, and so far in the 11 months he's been here he's been one of the better CBs we've had.

Yes, he was a bargain, but I think that's sometimes held against him - think people would be more willing to give him a chance if we had paid stupid money for him.
