Mick
The ones we met in the boozers before the match were all decent, and were almost all Mancs, proper fans who'd not turned up for a day out in their jester hats. Man United's away support is probably the best in the country, too. Which made it all the more disappointing when they all f***ed off back to Wembley Park before the crush. I know the CCC is a far lower priority for them but even so ... I was drinking around London from 5am and only spotted 1 Man U fan before we went to the ground and that was at Trafalgar Square. I didn't see any after the game either so my only memory of them is of them being s****. It was almost the same when we played Chelsea in the Semi, I didn't see any of them until we went close to the ground, they were also s**** and they tried to have a go at us and then realised that it wasn't a good idea so they stood behind the police and threw beer glasses at us until some of our lot got sick and crossed over the road and then they dissapeared again and I didn't see another that day until inside the ground. Guest Monkey
Oh, one more thing, given the total and utter lack of segregation before and after the match, and on transport away from the ground, I truly dread to think of what it will be like in the quite possibly possible situation of us playing Birmingham City in the semi or final. Not a point specific to new Wembley, but even so ... *shudder* First point is Man Utd's away support being the best. They've been shit last two or three seasons, and their away support only picked up I'd say from about 2000 onwards. See if their away support and home support would hold up if they ever go what we've been through, possibly but how hard is backing such an absolutely brilliant side. In 1996 our away support was far better than their's which also coincided with being a brilliant team. Regarding your post and Birmingham City, I think you'd be alright to be honest, you live in the same city, Sheff Utd and Sheff Wed passed off ok, and Liverpool have played Man Utd enough times there and they hate each other as much as yous two do. The absolute nightmare scenario would be Newcastle v Sunderland at Wembley, you would need police in every county of the country at every service station from Tyneside to London, and I know for a fact there would be deaths. In fact I'm sure they'd fiddle the draw so it couldn't happen. That game could never happen at Wembley, absolutely no chance. Possibly the same with Millwall West Ham, I'm sure they'd get away with it with everyone else though.
Mick
Went 6 times in total. Both recent cup finals, the cup semi against Chelsea, the Charity Shield hammering, England v Denmark which was a boring 0-0 and that 2 day tournament I mentioned earlier. Was that tournament over 2 days? I remember watching our two games and a mackem game and others in between ours then going home the same night. Did the mackems go out to Tranmere before us? To be fair the Trafalgar Square thing must become a bit much when you get there every fucking season. It certainly doesn't make the shit, and for Chelsea, many of them probably live closer to Wembley than Central London so why bother? Small time attitude. Mick
To be fair the Trafalgar Square thing must become a bit much when you get there every f***ing season. It certainly doesn't make the s***, and for Chelsea, many of them probably live closer to Wembley than Central London so why bother? Small time attitude. Trafalgar Square was the only place where I actually saw a Man U fan, it wasn't the only place where I was drinking during the day. As for Chelsea fans, I would have expected that the Semi Final of the FA Cup is a bit more than on ordinary game and worthy of making a day of it. Maybe they remained in Chelsea, I doubt that they all live in Chelsea anyway. As for my memory of Man U fans being shite, that impression was because of the way they acted during the game when I was sitting in the same end as them. To assume it is in any worse less vile than Newcastle - Sunderland is fanciful nonsense, I'm afraid. It is every bit as nasty, bitter, and underpinned by jealousy on one side (which the nastiest rivalries often are). The fact we live in the same city is the whole problem. West Midlands Police tried, but failed, to get our matches against them moved to 10am recently, which says a lot about it. To add to it, London is comparatively close to Birmingham, there would be plenty more people just travelling down "for the experience" as it is so cheap to get there. Incidentally, you are wrong about Man United's away support. i fucking hate that club, but in all the time i have been watching football - 35 years - it has consistently been the best. And that includes when they were in the second division, too. It is too easy to assume that because they, like Liverpool, have lots of gloryhunting fans, their away support is similar. It isn't. Liverpool's support at our place is dreadful - jester hat toting Irish / Scando / Southern counties camera-toting fuckwits. Man U's away support is almost entirely Mancunian, partisan and noisy. They've certainly been the loudest away fans at our place pretty much every year for the last 10 years, the only clubs that pushed them for it were the smaller clubs at FA Cup matches, and possibly Stoke and Spurs. And that's not particularly pleasant to admit, either.

They're not shit though, they're certainly not the best as brummie suggests though in my view, he's only saying that as Villa Park seems to get overran by them every time they play there, and so it should it's only 90 miles up the motorway. They had a cup game there, was only about 29,000 there, and 6,000 were Man Utd end ticket holders and they seemed to be all over the ground, same game Nistelrooy scored a hattrick. That type of thing wouldn't happen somewhere with a proper support. They have about 10,000 fans who are vocal and seem to back them, the rest are shite and an embarrassment. That semi final in Cardiff oh dear, I seen a Malaysian with a ROONEY 9 shirt on nearthe station, he didn't even fucking wear 9.

That semi final in Cardiff oh dear, I seen a Malaysian with a ROONEY 9 shirt on nearthe station, he didn't even fucking wear 9. Villa Park doesn't get "overrun" when they play us. The fact of the matter is, they are consistently the noisiest away supporters, and I'm basing that on years of watching Villa, and saying it although I can't stand Manchester United. They just are. They're not only the loudest, they've got the widest selection of songs as well. I can say what you want if you like, and suggest that Newcastle are the loudest away fans at our place, but the fact is they're not. And neither, for that matter, are Sunderland, although they like to tell everyone they are. You can tell everyone all Man U away fans are 'Rooney 9' shirt wearing Malaysians if you like, but that's utter nonsense, as anyone with a brain will tell you. It's a bit like listening to some of our dimmer fans on the way to Wembley on Sunday, "hurr hurr, all Man U fans are fron Kent, they're all one game a season morons". Yeah, right, I'd like to see them run into some old school 1970s or 80s Man U fans and try that line. There are enough of them still about, too. Our game must be one of a handful in world football where you are almost told to travel the whole distance under escort. It surely must be the only game in Britain where a whole city centre is cordoned off, and away fans remain in the ground 90 minutes after the game. It must be the only game in Britain where there is 500 years of culturally history, and the two areas actually have a war, of have been political rivals for at least that length of time. How are we supposed to have 500 years of "culturally history" amongst ourselves? And what shape did said football rivalry take in the 15th century, out of interest. And you sound a bit like Danny Dyer quoting arrest figures. Pwopah norty! Pwopah norty!
OzzieMandias
My memories of old Wembley are sadly quite poor. It was always my dream to see the toon there, and the first time I went we played Man Utd in the Charity Shield. I think I was equally gutted and disappointed about the old stadium as I was about our 4-0 defeat. You would slag off grounds in countries no ones ever heard of like Tajikstan, if they had facilities like them, let alone the most famous stadium in the worlds most famous country. Awful, I take it the interior must've been the same for at least 40 years. The last time I was there was also the last ever game at Wembley, England v Germany. We lost 0-1 as most will recall, I bought 10 programmes thinking they'd be worth a fortune in years to come as it was the last game there, the defeat clearly knocked value off them cos they were still trading for tenner on youtube last I saw. No old Wembley wasn't special for me, it's got history no one can take that away from it, but I was pleased they knocked it down, and the day just summed it up for me, half time downstairs two thousand thugs charging at the gates where the germans were, pissed it down, England played shit, and my ticket cost £200 off a tout, all in all, I thought it was wank. The world's most famous country? Meanwhile, I've been to a few games at Budapest's Népstadion, and the old Wembley was miles better than that. I've also been to a load of games at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, and old Wembley was better than that, too, before the remodelling for WC 2006. Guest firetotheworks
I saw England under 15s beat Brazil under 15s 1-0. I was 10 and Michael Owen scored the goal. I spat on the poster of Andy Cole in the program because he'd just went to Man United, and the entire place had a foisty, piss-like smell. Michael aged 25. Doing a good job in our B team now, can't wait for him to have a managerial career in the top flight, will root for any club he manages. The rumor is that Guardiola wants to eventually become a DoF and have Luís manage us (they worked together before Pep stepped up to the first team). Pant-creaming setup if it works! ujpest doza
I went to Old Wembley 5 times and was very disapointed by it. It always looked great on the telly for the FA Cup final as well. Stairwells swimming in piss, crap view because the terracing was too shallow and too far from the pitch and then an hours wait on wembley way afterwards trying to get on a tube. In the second half I couldn't see any of the play at all when it was down the Barcelona end. Gabor Király was the only player visible, standing on the edge of his area and peering down the field. Players would come back into view only when Barça attacked up the right. Whenever this happened everyone in my area starting singing a song which went (rough translation): "So nice, so nice, to see you again!" I didn't stay until the end. The match had been going to make me late for a date with a beautiful Slovenian woman, so when it all descended into opaque ridiculousness, I fucked off to have a drink and get laid instead.
