dinotheprehistoricgeordie
Ok. Just when I heard flipped I had visions of Quinn with a lamp shade on his head, begging Sunderland fans to improve attendances at home matches.
Guest
Just a rant saying they've been linked with 40 players in the press, that the Gyan thing this morning has obviously came from his agent or opposition clubs trying to unsettle him, etc. It's as if it's only Sunderland that are linked with lots of players and have their players linked elsewhere. Guest Loven11
LukeEdwards0 Luke Edwards #safc clearly getting irritated by claims gyan is going to be sold, but worrying as it means someone somewhere wants him to be sold

Dokko
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has hit out at reports in this morning's media inferring that the club were proactively attempting to move on Asamoah Gyan. Such rumours have drawn the ire of the Stadium of Light chief, who took the rare step of issuing a statement. "I'm sorry that our fans have to read the endless speculation that appears in the press at this time of year," he told safc.com. "Normally we don't comment on any of it as there's so much - for instance we've been linked to over 40 players in the last month or so alone. "However, the suggestion that we have spoken to an agent to sell this player on our behalf is embarrassing to all concerned. "I hope our fans would be smart enough to realise that this is probably some other club or outside agents' way of attempting to destabilise our relationship with one of our players." Meanwhile the club remain active in the transfer market and are in talks with several potential summer acquisitions. Quinn added: "What I can say is that we are in a number of meaningful negotiations to bring players in and when there's anything definitive to report it will be on our club website for our fans to read." Guest
To be fair, when in Sunderland's recent history have they had a few assets they can sell for mega money like Bent, Henderson & Gyan? It's not like the days when they got a few million here and there for Whitehead, Stead, Lawrence, etc. They just don't know how to act like a club in these new times. Dokko
In a way I feel sorry for Quinn. He was there when SAFC were 2nd in the league in January with a full house backing the side. He made the mistake of believing the nonsense about SAFC being a sleeping giant who could attract even more supporters if a similar quality of football was delivered consistently. He mistakenly believed that the support for the club was some sort of phenomenon, but in reality Sunderland's supporters only bring £14m through the gate, only £2m more than Middlesbrough's supporter's when they were in the Premier League. Quinn has sold a dream to Short - a dream of a full Stadium of Light with many more locked out, roaring on a team in the top half of the table, grabbing the nations attention. Of course, revenue would increase accordingly. That is why Short is here. It has not materialised. Quinn now looks foolish. He has been forced to mention cutbacks and the possibility of resigning if attendances did not increase. His rather pathetic pretext for this was some ridiculous nonsense about 8000 people watching the match in the pub. He has sold a dream that cannot happen. Sunderland's support is no better than that of Stoke, Middlesbrough, or Norwich. That is painfully clear now. He serves no purpose except to deliver blarney for £1m a year. The cutbacks are sure to follow soon, the magic carpet ride is over. If he wants to avoid being a hate figure, Quinn should resign. However, I suspect he will be happy to continue spouting shite over a pint at talk ins and pick up £1m a year from the club. What does he contribute to SAFC apart from that? Nothing. If he really felt anything for SAFC, Quinn would resign before the cutbacks take place. Some can see this, the blind cannot,. http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=598372

David Icke - Son of God
Harry Redknapp up to his old tricks again would be my guess. Redknapp is much more brazen about it when tapping up players. Sounds like tricks from Gyan & his agent.

Pilko
Westwood - decent squad goalkeeper but won't really make a difference. There's a reason he's existed in the Championship for so long, despite always being touted for the top level, and a reason why a punt's only being taken on him whilst he's free. Di Jong Won - no idea, he's not that expensive though so if he's shite then it's not a great loss, if he's good then they've done well to get him. Low risk. Gibson - will grab 5 or 6 goals from long range but otherwise isn't a signing that will really help the mackems push on. His all round game is very ordinary. N'gog - what a fucking waste of money. oldtype
According to the local press Sunderland are very close to losing out to PSV for Ji Dong-Won. Ji wants to go to the Mackems but his club seem to be trying to force him to PSV because they've made a higher bid. It's like their version of Gameiro, only in reverse and involving a (probably) crappier player.
