Dokko
i think we can do better than Barnetta tbh. and i don't really understand what Pardew is trying to do by spending big on Matuidi when we already have two deep lying players in Cabaye and Tiote. It's all a bit odd. Maybe he wants a solid centre to build a team around. It has been a while since we've had a centre like that. that would put a hell of a lot of pressure on the front three both to score and create goals, last season the three of matuidi, tiote and cabaye scored 3 goals between them. from what ive seen of cabaye he sits back and likes to dictate play, a xabi alonso type. he does seem to have scored more the previous season but many were pens and set pieces. you'd be asking for 3 forward players to each get comfortably into double figures, so no room for the likes of Jonas, and you'd have to hope that HBA gets into form right away, and him returning as a top player is still in doubt. i think it would also leave a gap between midfield and attack that would be difficult to bridge without a willing runner from midfield. would be relying even more on attacking full-backs, which simpson is absolute balls at, and enrique is probably off elsewhere. just doesnt seem to make sense but i'll wait and see, even though i suspect Tiote will be leaving. It depends on how well we get the ball back/recycle possession, because if it works we will end up with twice as many chances for better forwards to try and put away next season. I don't think we'll see all three play together all of the time, like i said elsewhere, versatility, options, especially against classier teams where we've been over ran and outplayed in the centre. mrmojorisin75
tt's right for me, i reckon they're aiming for a massive overhaul in the way we play and that is determining who is sold as well no more passengers - a much more dynamic and athletic midfield to able to break up the opp play and move the ball quickly upfield to a very mobile attacking 3 at least that's how it looks at this stage

I like the idea of Tiote/Cabaye/Matuidi(or similar) together, anything that makes us a stronger/harder to beat side cant be too bad provided we sign enough to make the chances going forward. The only worry is the pace of change, I'm fairly confident we can find the right players.
nufc4eva
You never know our team may have movement, something that has been missing for so long. Imagine a player making an intelligent run, a keeper throwing rather than launching the ball. Centre halves having a dynamic midfield to play into rather than bypass, Wingbacks having someone to overlap / pick the ball up. If our dynamics do change and we do get the right players it could change our ambitions next year, we do have to have the right mix of flair and strength though which is maybe where tiote and matuidi come in. Guest
It's a gamble, but I'd sooner us have a go signing those types who could give us a real shot if they fulfill their potential of finishing close to the top 6, and if that fails finishing mid-table, than sticking with the likes of Nolan & Barton settling for finishing around 10th anyway. taxfree
From Le Figaro: 12:41: Highly coveted, Youssef El Arabi would now be followed by FC Sevilla. The Caen striker also interested Genoa and Newcastle but should not leave the Stade Malherbe for less than 8 million.
Guest
Linked with Youssef El-Arabi on the French sites. Aye, saw that. Us and Genoa are supposed to have offered or want to pay €5m for him, they want €8m.
johnnypd
we seem to be linked to a lot of players in the foreign media, but i suspect it's like Arevalo last summer, we've been watching them or making enquiries rather than putting down firm bids. Arevalo's agent said we approached him but were waiting to hear back about "an Ivorian player", before he was heavily linked with us. He was clearly the back-up plan, and no doubt we would have had an offer on the table incase Tiote didn't sign.
