He's not even got a good footballer's name.  There are hardly any decent Keiths.  Ok, Gillespie but that's probably our quota done.

£2.5m and I reckon he'll be off unfortunately. Seems mad that Man Utd are after than Honduran lad. Would be relatively expense back up for Evra when they've Fabio etc.

Is a good player but only played half a dozen games for Villa. Would be very surprised if he moved on, think the deal was only made permanent fairly recently. Same with Makoun, neither played got much of a chance last season despite being highly rated abroad.

Newcastle have made a surprise enquiry about Preston winger Keith Treacy.

The former Blackburn youngster is likely to be moved on by relegated North End this summer.

And Magpies boss Alan Pardew is ready to gamble on the Irishman by handing him a spot in the Premier League.

Tracey made 12 top flight appearances at Rovers before dropping down to the Championship with Preston.

He fired nine goals last term despite playing in a wide position and shone whilst on international duty.

And that form has persuaded Pardew to consider a bargain priced bid for the 22-year-old.

Preston are willing to let Tracey go on the cheap as they attempt to trim a wage bill far too large to carry in League One.

Preston North End boss Phil Brown has confirmed four clubs have shown an interest in Keith Treacy, but have yet to make a bid for the winger.

Treacy revealed last month that he is keen to play at a higher level than League One after Preston were relegated from the Championship last season.

The Republic of Ireland international also suggested that the Lilywhites would be prepared to let him move on providing their valuation was met over the summer.

Premier League side Newcastle United, along with Championship trio Burnley, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with Treacy as Brown tries to keep the 22-year-old at Deepdale.

"Keith is a player who will eventually play Premier League football," Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post. "Hopefully that will be in a Preston North End shirt.

"I know that having had conversations with Keith, he is indebted to this club for giving him his chance. That wasn't under my guidance, it was under someone else's guidance.

"When I arrived at the club, I quickly recognised what Keith Treacy is - he is a quality player.

"There's been no firm offers for him. But I have had interest from four clubs - one of them a Premier League club, the other three being in the Championship.

"With that in mind, if we can manage to keep hold of Keith and our other better players, for me it is a firm indication from Preston North End that we mean business next season.

"But I also understand that finances can dictate things. If someone comes in and bids a ridiculous amount of money for Keith, the other side of the equation follows."

To be honest wouldn't be surprised if we aren't at all interested and we have had our name thrown in to try and smoke out others.

Yeah i guess "ffs Newcastle are in for him lets get there quick before they blow us out the water"  :cheesy:

I don't know why so many people are against this signing, I've just done some Dennis Wise scouting on him and he doesn't seem awful. Our track record of picking up players in the lower leagues has been good this season, if Carr and Pardew think he has a chance of making it then for 1m or so I don't see how it can go too badly wrong. He seems like exactly the type of squad player we need.
