I did put forward the name of Pardew in October. Thats why I knew Hughton was on the platform with the trapdoor creaking. The name was given to a friend of mine who's reasonably close to an NUFC player. Make no mistake about it - the squad will have known all about this for a while.

We should all step down from the Geordie moral high ground and stop pretending there's something new or sinister about talking to a potential replacement before you fire someone. Anyone with half a brain cell knows that it not only happened in this case but EVERY time a manager is speedily replaced.

Pardew was naive at best and stupid at worst to pretend otherwise yesterday, but the way he was thrown to the lions during that press conference he had no chance anyway.

NUFC fans are in danger of earning a reputation of fans who throw the baby out with the bathwater by refusing to accept Pardew!  I mean come on, Hughton has gone and he won't be coming back period.

Everyone of us has their own conspiracy theory of how and why Hughton was sacked and Pardew employed, but at the end of the day none of us has a shred of evidence to support those sometimes wild and bordering on libellous theories, other than circumstances that could at best be described as coincidences, such as the rumours that Pardew was negotiating with NUFC a month ago.  Where is the evidence of this?

OK so Pardew and Llambias and Ashley have met before, but the evidence is that at best they are acquainted with each other through mutual pastimes and nothing more.  Hardly a basis for giving someone a lucrative job.

The Keegan debacle led Ashley to put the club on the market because of the hatred directed at him by the fans, but no one was interested, most said it was because Ashley was asking too high a price, but the truth is most potential buyers took one look at the vitriol generated by the fans and decided they could do without that hassle.

Lets not go down that road again, because if we all know where it leads, lets prove we have learned from our past mistakes even if Ashley hasn't.

I admire your courage to post this! I don't fully agree with everything but I agree with your general point. We continue to act like narrow minded tards and call for Pardews head from day one we're relegated. And I'm sure thats gonna be loads of fun- especially since we won't have another hughton to sort it out..

I don't really think where they met Pardew or how long they've been thinking of appointing him is that relevant TBH.

If they hadn't met him before, would it be better? If they'd fired Hughton on a whim without a plan for a replacement, would that be a better way to do it?

There's a lot of stuff to be worked up about, but that isn't one of them.

It seems daft to criticize for hiring a bloke they met in a casino? When will some people take their tongue out of Ashley's hoop?

So, does asking for Pardew to be given a fair chance equate to being an Ashley arselicker?

Even asking that question puts you dangerously close to his ringpiece.

Which is why the stories in the press about them rebelling is rubbish.

It will surprise many on here but Pardew has a good reputation amongst professionals in the game, our squad will know what he's about. Sure the players will be upset for CH - any employee would be when a good work mate or boss is fired.

They'll get on with the job in hand - one or two might consider themselves to be Hughton's men - but it's not exactly like they ran through walls for him at WBA last week when he still was their boss - is it ?

I didn't say that, though.

When will some people get their brains out of neutral?

Your idea that you are now "vindicated" in believing Ashley is acting out of pure spite is particularly laughable.

I'm interested in what you think Ashley was thinking when he did this and please don't insult me by saying that he truly thinks Pardew is a better manager and a bigger name.

The fact that there was real reason to replace Hughton negates what you posted. Can't quite understand the "geordie moral high ground' comment.

Pardew has clearly part of the problem and has been complicit in most of this. Insulting comment about the narrow minded tards bit,  in fact it's a disgraceful comment as well.

Pardew is only 'part of the problem' in that he's a symptom of Ashley's running of the club. If he hadn't taken the job, we could well have ended up with an even shitter manager.

Crumpy man I've posted on here for nearly ten years and in that time you've wanted every single manager sacked from the off. Just as long as you know you're on record as backing this mug when we go down.

On record?

I've suggested I have misgivings in his appointment (Pardews ability) but in fact he's done fuck all to be crucified for. I did say at least let him earn the right to be crucified.

And if he did take us down I'm firmly in the camp of thinking thats exactly where we were going under Hughton.

The problem is that many people want Ashley out, and there seems to be a general understanding that unless somebody gets £250m for Christmas, then the only realistic prospect of that happening is if his current £100m or so loss looks like being a £150m or £200m loss, so that he wants to get rid as quickly as possible. Which is why there is an understandable move to boycott, stop buying pies, stop going to games, create hostile atmospheres, lose more games at home etc. It is the only realistic way how people can get back at him and express their anger, by getting at his wallet.

The problem with that approach, is that it would probably work in the end if done properly.

The reason it would work is that as we have seen, this sort of shit tends to end one way - relegation. This time I am sure we would not be so lucky to keep enough top players to walk promotion. Take away the 40K plus crowds as well, and the match day income which supports the wages available for players and transfer fees, then all of a sudden we are Middlesboro/Sheff Wed. Another team where supporter interest has died, and hence income, with no new investment. The club would be worth less than half of what it is worth today. Ashley might then cut his losses, as he has felt pain in his pocket. The supporters will have finally won.

Hate is as we do, our interests are directly aligned with Ashleys. If the club starts losing vast amounts of income, it becomes less valuable, and Ashley will get out as quick as he can. However, we lose the club to the wastelands of english football for a generation.

So there lies the dilemma. Do we turn on the club, protest, boycott the games, try and force Ashley to sell by threatening the value of his asset. Or do we support the club, support the team, create a great atmosphere at games, and try our best to keep the club in the league. It's a difficult one.

I would love to be able to hurt Ashley, but it seems impossible to do it (legally) without hurting the club. I don't want to do the latter, and whilst we are a premier league club, then we always have the chance of a trophy investor coming in and buying us. So whilst I won't like it, I will continue to go to games, I won't buy any more or less beer and pies than I would otherwise do, and I will not boo the players, or even Alan Pardew.

Very sensible post that. If NUFC is bigger than Ashley, then it will be here long after he's fucked off - we need that to be in the best condition possible.

That's without arguing over whether it's even possible to force him out (which I don't think it is, at least not with anything we could realistically do).

No good will come of anything other than backing Pardew now, BUT...

He has lied to us in his first day in the job, so it gets even harder not to see him joined at the hip with those pair of liars - as proven in court in the Keegan case - that are his buddies from the casino

[ or from  charity fundraising events - delete according to gullibility].

There's also the problem of someone putting large enough amounts on his (surely pretty unpredictable?) name to cause the bookies to make him favourite. Add this to the Keegan and Joke-in'ere appointments and a pattern is emerging... managers aren't being picked for their suitability, but their long odds.

Don't bother explaining yourself mate, people read what they wanna read. It seems it has to be either black or white. If you're not on the hate everything about Ashley + Pardew bandwagon, then you're an ass licker and must have hated everything about Hughton. There's just no middle ground or room for a nuanced view, incredibly frustrating.

John Brownlie was told by Colin Calderwood on Saturday evening the Hughton didn't have long left and Pardew had more or less signed a contract.

I just hope the bloke is given a chance.

Create a continual cauldron of hate and our team and season will be sucked into it.

Thats exactly the scenario that is going to be created. The protest (although I would accept is designed as peaceful) will be overtaken by the badly written bedsheet brigade.
