The schedule is always a bitch to follow and it hasn't hooked me yet despite living 30 minutes from Red Bull Arena. Do Portland players get slabs of wood for every goal they score? http://www.portlandtimbers.com/supporters/timber-joey Yeah, I lived a train hop away from the Bull Arena and for the life of me I couldn't get attached to that "team". They're just so awful from top to bottom. The MLS is getting better though. One of the weirdest things are the shitty salaries players get, as opposed to the monster packages they get over here, makes teams more relatable somehow. Outside of Chivas, NYRB is the worst. Nobody cares about it. It's what they get for putting the stadium in Harrison, NJ. I really don't think Harrison is the issue. For starters, Harrison/Kearny is one of the few areas you'll go and see kids kicking a soccer ball down the street instead of basketball/football/baseball. Unfortunately most of these people are probably priced out. I also think they do an awful job of marketing the team. I had the following exchange with a co-worker who's in his mid-20's, likes sports, lives in NJ and works in NYC (should be a major target): Him: Is there a team in NJ? Me: Yes, the Red Bulls Him: Oh yeah, I've heard of them. They play at Giants Stadium, right? Part of it they can't help. The Yankees/Mets dominate the summer. The Giants/Jets dominate the fall. Add in the Knick/Nets/Rangers/Islanders/Devils and there isn't much room.
