The worst players in recent club history

Recommended Posts

Albert Luque was honestly a brilliant player up until you signed him. Probably wasn't suited to your league, but he was worth the money at that point, imho.

Was actually going to ask for your opinion, cheers for that

Luque was class v Man United before his injury. Should have scored after flicking the ball over Ferdinand.

Then against Fulham, Souness farmed him out on the wing to preserve fucking Shearer's place in the team. Sound familiar?

One player i forgot about, drum roll.....

Alan O'Brien.

Pattison was worse, slightly, but still. Roeder really decided to bring some really crap players through. It all started when Souness brought Ramage through, then things got out of hand with Huntington, O'Brien, Pattison and to some degree, David Edgar.

We've had a raft of utterly awful youngsters come through- Pattinson, Ramage, Huntington, Alan O'Brien.

And every one of them was at some point highly rated on here. Perhaps not O'Brien, but the others certainly.

"Fucking" Shearer's place in the team? Had he not earned that place? Luque wasn't class at all either, he was average and very quickly turned to utter dog shit after his return from injury. A disastrous signing.

Pattinson, Ramage, Huntington,

Who all played in that game away to Spurs. Fucking hell

Yep, our team that day was absolutely shocking. Makes our win all the more remarkable. I wonder what the odds were that day that both Huntington and Butt would score?

Reckon if Shearer returned now we'd have to return him to the first team?  There comes a point where a player is just unable to contribute sufficiently.  Take Gary Neville as a prime example this season.

Gary Neville this season and Shearer in his final one for NUFC are two totally different propositions, Shearer was still in the team on merit as he was the best option in that side along with Owen. Are you seriously suggesting had we player Albert fucking Luque up front instead of his Luque would have prospered into what would be a considered a great signing? Alan Shearer was still capable of scoring plenty of goals at that stage and still did get his fair share even when we were playing dog shit football and serving him up with next to no chances.

Hamilton, Garry Brady was completely pointless as I recall.  Robinson.  (How the hell did we get that money for him?)  Cordone went to shit.  Georgiadis, another anonymous signing.  G'uivarch.  Wayne Quinn.  Andersson.

Though he was clearly well past his best it by then, Shearer still got 14 goals that year - 10 in the Premier League. Off the back of three major injuries too.

It's just not fair to say anyone could 'despise' Shearer on the pitch at any point. The guy had more application and bottle than anyone who's ever played for us since. Especially a certain few other forwards.

Put simply, yes.

Shearer shackled the club (in selection and tactical approach) and consequently significantly stunted the development of the side.

I agree that to an extent he did hold the development of the first team back in his later years. Overall though the bloke's positive contributions completely outweighed any negative affect he had. Even in his last season, he still chipped in with about 8 goals. I wish we currently had that problem tbh.

Shearer shackled the club in its tactical approach?  What were we going to serve up with the likes of Carr and Robbie Elliott as fullbacks and Lee Clark on the bench?

Shearer gets way too much stick for his last few season that its comical.  We had bigger problems basically.

Exactly. Overly criticising Shearer is just attention seeking imo.
