Pardew will make a mockery of your inside-the-box thinking in the season to come.

The omission of Danny Simpson at LB? http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ8llCeVsTpgu7_3Yc--_HOkROsJW_7XmW2HdmNdcZzQpXN6yMs5w

I'm never in favour of stuff like this, as it makes it look like we've got a brimming squad when in reality the likes of Gosling/Taylor/Jonas are about five players each :lol:

Other way around, you just draw a line through their name when they're unavailable.

This paints a better (and worse!) picture IMO.

But we've got players that can play in multiple positions - although it may not be their strongest positions. The whole point of a 'depth chart' is to see who would come into the side if the first choice wasn't available. I.e. Marveaux could be understudy to Jonas and Joey.

Aye, but he can't be understudy to both at the same time. That's my point.

Your post paints a false picture - "Oh if Barton and Jonas are injured then it's fine because Marveaux and Marveaux can come in...oh..."

Not really. I can see what Stu's doing here really. You'd for example, put Marveaux LM, scratch him from the RM list and play Gosling right, etc.

Having a flexible squad is almost as important as a big squad, the list Stu has complied shows we do have flexibility from our squad but CB looks horrific.

CB & LB are the worst depth wise without a doubt, although plenty options in terms of numbers up front, we desperately lack in ability.

Very much so. Both big concerns at the moment. Fortunately for the defence Coloccini & to a lesser extent José seem pretty averse to long term injuries.

Not a pressing concern but if we want to improve the quality gap in the first team central midfielders (Tiote  & Cabaye) to the back ups needs addressing too IMO

Better? I think we can get by in midfield even with Raylor in there (hopefully Abeid steps up) we just need another defender and another forward and we will be fine. That said I doubt Weiss would cost the earth so ifwe could get him for say the Routledge fee then we should and the midfield is pretty much perfect (in realistic terms).

This is the one I put together to make sure team selection for Football Manager is correct when left to the AI (reputations have been removed), will probably need a bit of rebalancing.

* = 2nd position

** = 3rd position

*** = 4th position
