The last two are rated doubtful for the next match against Manchester City, while the former departed St James’ Park on crutches after suffering a groin injury. United withdrew Cheick Tiote, still recovering from a knee injury, from international duty and it is unlikely that Leon Best or Yohan Cabaye will play for their countries this week. Best’s wife is heavily pregnant, which may mean him being granted leave on compassionate grounds, but a toe and groin injury could also rule him out. Cabaye suffered a groin problem that makes him unlikely to play too – although both will link up with their international teams to be assessed. Pardew rates all three as doubtful for Manchester City – but will not definitively rule them out. “Cabaye and Marveaux have groin injuries that will be difficult to heal in two weeks,” he revealed. “We will have to wait and see, it is not like they are huge tears and they are definitely out. And Leon Best’s hopes of playing for Ireland in their Euro 2012 play-off with Estonia also appear to be in doubt. Both suffered injuries in the 2-1 win over Everton at St James’ Park while Sylvain Marveaux, making his first Premier League start, is also in the treatment room. France have two friendlies lined up this week with home encounters against the USA and Belgium as they start to warm-up for Euro 2012. Pardew told the Chronicle today: “Cabaye’s got a groin injury, as has Marveaux. Best’s got a groin and toe problem. “I’d be very surprised if Cabaye could play for France, very.” Thankfully for Pardew and his backroom team, the Magpies have a two-week break until their next game against Manchester City at Eastlands. And with the trio all under review by United medics, Pardew feels it is too early to say if they will be involved against the big-spending Citizens. He added: “I hope so, but you just don’t know how serious they are at the moment. We’ll have to wait and see.” Pardew is more than likely to be without Gabriel Obertan for the visit to the North West when the Premier League resumes after the international break. He believes there is still “hope” that Cabaye may feature in the second of France’s friendlies against Belgium next week – which will give hope to United fans who want him back in time for the crunch clash with Manchester City. No doubt the former Lille man – who says he has settled “perfectly” on Tyneside – will be equally desperate to play in United’s biggest game of the season.
