That's not the same as 'normalising' though.

And before you start wheeling out shite like folk are 'scum of the earth', perhaps think about the broad spectrum of perspectives people approach issues like this from

Nah, you're alright thanks.

You're absolute scum of the earth if you think a Premier League football referee openly doing class A drugs is behaviour that should be normalised.

Scum of the earth is a bit much like.

They have an uninformed opinion, they aren't nonces.

Scum of the earth

Rapists, nonces, murderers... and a man in a high profile job who took drugs. Shoulder to shoulder in the vulnerable prisons unit at the maximum security nick.

It's not the fact that he did coke, it's the fact that it's been plastered all over the internet. I'm under no illusion that it goes on all the time, people do what they do, but once the evidence is there for all to see it's a different matter.

You're not helping yourself here. So you're now arguing that it's the fact he's all over the internet - something over which he had no control - is the thing which meant he should lose his job? And not the fact he took drugs in the first place?

So where does your scum of the earth/normalising shite fit in here?

Well yeah. You can't have kids googling "David Coote the Premier League referee" and seeing stuff like that.

Still makes no sense to me. Reading between the lines, what's the reason? That he's uniquely damaging the brand so deserves to lose his job, shattering naive illusions, setting a bad example? Still not sure how thinking he shouldn't lose his job for it makes you scum of the earth like, as you said yourself you're under no illusion that it goes on all the time.

You're going back on yourself. One minute you're saying folk are scum of the earth because they want to see a bit of compassion, the next you're saying it's actually got nothing to do with the fact he took drugs, but rather that the video ended up on the internet.

When my daughter starts using the internet and googling stuff, her seeing one specific referee doing coke is probably the least of my worries as a parent like.

You're letting her Google, man? Sounds like normalising behaviour that. Scum of the earth, you, KI.

I don't think people who do coke deserve compassion in instances like these, come at me [emoji38]

That's not what you've said above though, man. What you've said is that they don't deserve compassion because they've ended up on the internet [emoji38]

And tbf, calling people scum of the earth because they have a different opinion to yours is pretty lame.

I'm not calling people scum of the earth because they have a different opinion to me (check my post history if you like, you will see that I am an advocate for people voicing different opinions), I'm calling people scum of the earth for normalising the use of class A's, particularly when linked to a high profile individual in something very popular amongst kids.

Thanks for clarifying, but yeah that's the same as what I thought you were saying from the start and I can't speak for anyone else, but changes nothing about the reaction to it as a completely mental position for me.
