Dr Colossus
So local businessman Peter Lim has been credited with a strong bid to buy Valencia. It will take €200-300m to clear the debts, €130m to complete Nou Mestalla, and more funds to invest in players. Sounds like an expensive takeover to me although Valencia ticks a lot of boxes for a football club. They could really do without even more rapid-fire managerial sackings, mind. TRC
With FFP can people just wipe club debts? I still don't understand FFP seems like a right loads of bollocks.
Tiresias
If someone actually wipes the debt though isn't that fair enough though? isn't the point to stop clubs getting into financial trouble buying success with debts, the problem comes when debt is wiped by going into some shadowy other debt that FFP doesn't care about or something ridiculous

He's no Vincent Tan for sure. Pretty much a humble, low-key guy by most accounts and nothing of the 'flamboyance' associated with Tan and Tony Fernandes. Tiresias
but then they're financially sound again. Being saved by some rich person may hardly seem the moral proper ending of a club being punished for taking out loads of debt but it's also what FPP wants in that it's less debt about. LRD
You have to wonder why Valencia bothered building a new 75k seater stadium when they couldn't even fill the current Mestalla. Seems like a huge waste of money.

Yeah did a bit of research after that, didn't realise they have so many on the waiting list. It seems they have downgraded the stadium project, including a reduced capacity of 61k, so that they may complete the ground. No idea if the Peter Lim bid, if successful, would mean going back to the original 75k capacity. Might as well settle for more than a 6k increase over Old Mestalla if they have the numbers. The original stadium plan looks great too. http://stadiumdb.com/news/2013/11/valencia_new_plan_to_deliver_nou_mestalla_smaller_and_cheaper Read that Atletico is scheduled to move into a new 70k capacity stadium in 2015. Another major advantage to add to the footballing front.
Village Idiot
That move was contingent on Madrid getting the Olympics as they'd become the Olympic Stadium's tennants. It's all up in the air now. The stadium exists but it needs a lot of remodeling which may not happen now.
Dr Colossus
Suffered structural damage while it's been stood there, hasn't it? The whole thing's a pity, stadium looked like it would've been lush.
Village Idiot
Basically, the idea was that the city council would buy the Calderón so it could expand the road that runs under it (which is a pretty important one) and the club would use the proceeds to buy the remodelled Olympic Stadium. Without the push of the Olympics to justify the operation, and given the poor finances of the city council, it will be hard to push this to completion, even though work has indeed started. So we might be looking at another Nou Mestalla kind of limbo here too.
Disco
Hope not, Calderon is class (if a bit dated). However, in other Argentines with shit hair taking over large Spanish clubs news...

Disco
I assume that's Pizzi. How's he as a manager considering you follow SA football? Transformed a poor San Lorenzo team in to title winners but given he was only there just over a year & the rampant inconsistency of Argentine football it's hard to know fully how good he is, they fell over the line in winning it too although tbf played some decent stuff throughout the season. Did OK but not spectacular at Rosario Central before it. Guess given his playing history it's a lot less risky than anyone else coming in from SA in theory plus he can't really do any worse than Djukic before him. Village Idiot
Love Pizzi myself, that game against Atlético in the cup was easily the best game an Argie not named Lionel has ever had for our club Hope he does well there, I'd hate for Valencia to fall to the wayside because of all the off the pitch trouble. Fugazi
Atletico-Barca this Saturday, canny. Would imagine Messi will start as well, if he gets a decent amount time on the pitch tomorrow.

Disco
Great to see Athletic winning big again, be brilliant if they can hold on to 4th spot and play in the CL next season. Cracking way to open the new stadium.

The College Dropout
Was at the Barcelona game on Saturday. Even though he had an off day Messi's close control and dribbling is absolutely amazing to watch in person. Jordi Alba was terrible all afternoon. Played like he had money on himself getting sent off. I've seen Fabregas live a few times and I've never seen him play so poorly. Valencia superb all second half. Only looked to have any belief of a result after the equaliser. Very impressed by some of their counter attacks. Piatti impressive.
Tooj
Anybody got an idea of how close Sergi Samper is at breaking through at Barca? Remember him being hyped massively a couple of years ago but nothing's really happened since.

Guest
Is the Liga Adelante the most compact league in Europe? 1. Deportivo La Coruna.....P27.....Pts....46 ... 11. Real Mallorca...............P27.....Pts....36 ... 22. Alaves..........................P27.....Pts....30 Pretty mental that after that many games and that number of teams, there's only 16 points between top & bottom.
