It will take €200-300m to clear the debts, €130m to complete Nou Mestalla, and more funds to invest in players. Sounds like an expensive takeover to me although Valencia ticks a lot of boxes for a football club. They could really do without even more rapid-fire managerial sackings, mind. Yeah did a bit of research after that, didn't realise they have so many on the waiting list. It seems they have downgraded the stadium project, including a reduced capacity of 61k, so that they may complete the ground. No idea if the Peter Lim bid, if successful, would mean going back to the original 75k capacity. Might as well settle for more than a 6k increase over Old Mestalla if they have the numbers. Village Idiot Posted December 26, 2013 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Basically, the idea was that the city council would buy the Calderón so it could expand the road that runs under it (which is a pretty important one) and the club would use the proceeds to buy the remodelled Olympic Stadium. Without the push of the Olympics to justify the operation, and given the poor finances of the city council, it will be hard to push this to completion, even though work has indeed started. Transformed a poor San Lorenzo team in to title winners but given he was only there just over a year & the rampant inconsistency of Argentine football it's hard to know fully how good he is, they fell over the line in winning it too although tbf played some decent stuff throughout the season. Did OK but not spectacular at Rosario Central before it. Guess given his playing history it's a lot less risky than anyone else coming in from SA in theory plus he can't really do any worse than Djukic before him. Even though he had an off day Messi's close control and dribbling is absolutely amazing to watch in person. Jordi Alba was terrible all afternoon. Played like he had money on himself getting sent off. I've seen Fabregas live a few times and I've never seen him play so poorly. Valencia superb all second half.
