That really could be seen on TV? Oh God. Just thought Simspson was the one I could get lucky with getting his shirt because he's not that loved by most of the supporters.

Yeah, the "do it" had" to be.

You two looked like best buddies, casually strolling together through the middle of the pitch

He used me as his security I felt at one point with all the little kids being there. They even asked me (in very poor English) if I could take a photo of them and Simpson. He was just like "keep going, keep going"

Still disappointed he didn't bring the shirt to me after his 40 minutes dressing room spell. Was one of the last ones in, the very last one out.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2012/07/18/claudio-ranieri-backs-newcastle-to-get-even-better-72703-31417006/?

CLAUDIO RANIERI feels Newcastle United are good enough to challenge for a Champions League place – but has warned not to break up last season’s Euro stars.

The former Chelsea manager is qualified to comment on all matters concerning the top four of the Premier League after guiding the Blues to their highest position in 49 years back in 2004 – something he achieved twice during his stint in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Ranieri – who was brave enough to sell Mr Chelsea himself, Dennis Wise – saw his current Monaco team slump to a 1-0 defeat by United in Germany on Monday night.

But after the game he granted the Chronicle an exclusive interview to discuss the Magpies’ chances next season.

Ranieri – who has managed in the world’s top divisions in La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League – grappled with Bobby Robson for a top-four slot during the halcyon era of the former England boss at St James’ Park.

Now he feels Newcastle have enough about them to get back there.

He told the Chronicle from Germany: “Newcastle are a fantastic team. In fact, I enjoy watching them and last season when they were in with a chance of the big four I watched them a lot.

“They play very, very well and it is good football too.

“They can get better too. They have a chance of top four.”

Ranieri feels that Newcastle can really begin to make an impact when some of the stars that delivered Europa League football last season return.

Playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa is back next week and influential Yohan Cabaye will fly back with him after an extended break in France following Euro 2012.

Ranieri also feels that skipper Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse will be key men this term.

The former Valencia and Napoli boss said: “Don’t forget in pre-season they have been without Yohan Cabaye, without Ben Arfa, without Coloccini and without Cisse.

“So they have to come back. And you need your big players to stay.

“They are a very big team in my eyes.”

Ranieri now feels the time has come for Alan Pardew and his troops to push on and make the breakthrough to the Champions League places.

The Italian said: “I don’t see why they can’t do really well in the league.

“It is important for them to do that.

“You always look to build on the next season.

“They have the Europa Cup too and that will be a good competition – the further they go the more important they become on the European map.”

Ranieri was thankful to the Magpies for giving them a high-profile friendly in Landsberg Am Lech against a Monaco team now plying their trade in France’s Ligue 2.

Of course the two sides clashed in the old UEFA Cup back in 1997 when the French outfit ran out 4-0 winners over two legs. But while Monaco are battling to get back into the big time, Ranieri feels Newcastle are very much back in the groove these days as they prepare for their first European campaign since 2006-07.

And before he said “Arrivederci” on his way out of the Hacker Pschorr Sport Park ground in Bavaria, he said: “Newcastle are a good team and I wish them all the best for next season. They have great fans.

“I hope they do well.

Ranieri is such a decent guy, shame he's not a good manager

Harsh, he's a good manager but not a brilliant one.

Did a good at Juventus and Roma under difficult circumstances.

Was very impressed by young Gael Bigi, mind. Young lad showing such confidence and wanting to be a "team player" impressed me. Said all the right things so far. I believe he'll be in the side before too long. Enthusiasm and determination (and no small skill) will always come through. Good signing.
