Wallwork hurt after bar stabbing

Barnsley's on-loan defender Ronnie Wallwork has been stabbed several times in an incident at a bar in Manchester.

The 29-year-old West Brom player was rushed to hospital with stab wounds to his hand, stomach and back.

Police were called to the Sugar Lounge in the city centre shortly after 1130 GMT on Thursday, and say they do not believe the attack was random.

Wallwork is now in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

That's my checklist when I go out.  What sort of a fucking dickhead do you need to be to add "knife" to that list?  Hope the lad gets better.

Ex-Manchester United player Ronnie Wallwork is recovering in hospital after being stabbed seven times at a private birthday party.

The 29-year-old had just arrived with his girlfriend at the Sugar Lounge bar in Manchester city centre when he was attacked.

The knifeman approached him without warning and stabbed him in the hand, stomach and back.

An eyewitness said: "Ronnie tried to fight back. There was no argument. He seemed to know Ronnie would be there.

"It all happened in the space of a few seconds."

Friends and bar staff rushed to help the footballer, who was bleeding heavily, and calm his shocked girlfriend.

Wallwork was taken downstairs and given first aid before an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.

Eye-witnesses said the attacker was known to his girlfriend. Sources said the man was a love rival.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We are looking for one particular person in connection with this attack.

"We have spoken to several eye witnesses to the incident and we are currently examining CCTV footage.

"We are very hopeful the attacker will be caught shortly."

Wallwork, who played 19 league games for the Red Devils, is now recovering in Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Now with West Bromwich Albion, he is currently on loan at Barnsley. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

The Sugar Lounge is a self-styled VIP club, regularly visited by celebrities, footballers and models. It is also open to the public.

What a shite headline.  I reckon he'll be a bit more than hurt ffs, he's just been stabbed 7 times.

if you read on.. "Ronnie Wallwork was reported to be hurt last night after a stabbing, from his hospital bed he said "for someone to go out and do that to you really makes you feel down, what have I done to him? Really makes Ronnie hurt to think someone doesn't like him"
