How the hell Pullis didn't get done for driving at what ever speed he did was ridiculous. Would love to see that twat thrown in prison.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has dodged a driving ban despite being caught by police doing 96mph on a Warwickshire motorway.

Pulis convinced magistrates that handing him a ban would cause hardship to him and the people of Stoke-on-Trent.

The 54-year-old Welshman had reached 15 penalty points with the offence but said he could not use a chauffeur as that could lead to leaks of confidential phone calls concerning the club made while on the road.

Pulis argued that leaks of conversations with chairman Peter Coates could even lead to the club being relegated from the Premier League, which would put local businesses at risk.

His lawyer, Mike Stephenson, told the court: 'There are numerous phone calls every day between Mr Pulis and the chairman which are totally confidential between them.

'That has contributed to the success of the football club.

'As a result of being in the Premiership it has put Stoke-on-Trent on the map.

'It has led to numerous businesses being set up. A number of them are totally reliant on Stoke City, and those businesses would suffer if they were relegated.'

Pulis had pleaded guilty through his lawyer in his absence at a hearing in Leamington last month to a charge of speeding on the M42 in north Warwickshire.

The offence occurred on November 6 last year, when Pulis was driving in a BMW 530DM back to his home in Poole having seen his side thrashed 5-0 at Bolton. There was a variable speed limit of 60mph on the section of the M42 in north Warwickshire at the time.

Pulis, who already had nine points on his licence, was handed six penalty points for the offence taking him three above the 12-point totting up limit.

But the presiding magistrate accepted a ban would cause unnecessary hardship because of 'the unusual nature of the business and the necessity of confidentiality.'

Pulis was fined £2,500 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, and given seven days to pay in full.

Incredible shit.

Still, it makes a change from the usual bollocks argument that the multi-millionaires involved in top flight football usually use, that financially they can't afford to miss part of their career. I'd have them in contempt of court for that.

There is this debate about whether defensive walls should jump up at free kicks, and Ricky Lambert's goal gives food for thought. The defenders jumped up, they became very loose and the ball went through them, which I think we're seeing more of than we used to.

Shearer blamed Sturridge for turning his back, but if the defenders stay hunched together and on the ground, that sort of instinctive gesture is less inclined to happen.

a) I'm very surprised that a magistrate has the discretion to waive a ban.

b) There has to be other ways round the 'chauffeur confidentiality' problem.

c) If this decision makes it less likely that Stoke will get relegated, than it naturally follows that it's more likely that another club will get relegated, with the same kind of consequences for the businesses and residents of that town. Is it really part of a magistrate's job to promote the interests of their home town, in competition with another's? Some seriously flawed reasoning here.

d) Driving at nearly 100mph is dangerous. Making these sorts of 'allowances' is irresponsible.

Accrington Stanley now have a potential strike pairing of Francis Jeffers & James Beattie.

Would have been canny around 2001.

What secrets is Pulis going to give away? He must be the most predictable manager around

"Right lads, got some proper ITK stuff here so keep it to yourselves. Stoke are going to use their physicality, often against the laws of the game, they are going to sit back, defend and if a goal comes then great. As said though, keep it to yourselves yeah?"

Man City are fucking pathetic. Putting aside the fact we beat them year after year and it fucks them off something rotten, they're such a dull team compared to the resources at their disposal. Delighted when I saw Gareth Barry's name in their lineup.

Ref was absolutely diabolical for both teams. Think the red card was the only thing he got right all day (mind, classy of their players to ensure Pienaar got sent off).

Chuffed to bits with the result. It doesn't forgive last week, though.

Oh, and broken record time. Shocking what happens when you don't play Neville, ey? This whole concept of having a centre midfield partnership which passes the ball well. Does not compute.

It's bizarre, they remind me of the england squad where I can't work out what they're trying to do, are they trying to play possession football? Are they trying to go down the flanks or up the middle? It's a mystery.

Classic case of players on huge wages not giving much of a toss mind.
