Ishmael
Fuentes and co-defendent found guilty. Fuentes sentenced to 1 year in jail (which he will not actually serve due to Spanish law), the other defendent sentenced to 4 months (again no actual jail time). They will destory all blood bags and documents relating to the trial instead of handing them over to WADA Eufemiano Fuentes, a doctor at the center of doping cases in Spain (cycling, athletics, tennis, football), has stated that if he could speak, the Spanish national team would be stripped of the European Championship and the World Cup Més que un cheats. Gallowgate Toon
It's worthy of a thread like, the current World and European champions look like they could well have cheated their way to the top. Absolutely ridiculous that they destroyed the bags.
Ishmael
They haven't been destroyed yet. The blood bags will be held in storage until appeal from Spanish Anti-Doping Agency is heard at the Supreme Court.

Ishmael
This is on the ITV news after the CL game. Finally, the media are acknowledging it after at least 2 years of knowing of its existence.
Village Idiot
At the time the facts before the court happened, doping wasnt punishable by ordinary law in Spain, only if athletes' health was put at risk because of it (something which is tricky to prove). The law has been changed since then, but you cant do that retroactively, so there's always little that could be done in this case in particular. It isn't a coverup, just a product of a law that was behind the times.

Athletes get banned for taking over the counter supplements which have substances which are banned for competition even though they aren't illegal as such. The governing sports bodies can do as they seem fit; the rationale behind our lenient old law was that it was up to sports bodies' to set the rules and police their privately-organised competitions. Ishmael
Nah, it's a cover-up. Only someone completely blinkered would say otherwise. BBC news reporting this as "other athletes" the softly-softly treading fence sitters.
