Grenier is too expensive and probably too good for us.

That should read he is too expensive and too good for Ashley, there isn't a player in the world who is too good for us.

 A better way of putting it.

He's a more expensive version of Cabella, who we can't sign at the moment.

Worthy of a thread, seems to be who we want to replace Cabaye. Bound to be yet again another player we have interest in but  probably won't get.

Clement Grenier open to move abroad - but Magpies face competition from Napoli

Clement Grenier is thought to be open to the idea of a move to Newcastle United - but the Magpies face stiff competition from Serie A outfit Napoli

Clement Grenier is thought to be open to the idea of a move to Newcastle United - but the Magpies face stiff competition from Serie A outfit Napoli.

The 23-year-old will be subject of a €13million bid from the Magpies according to reports in France this morning.

And the talk at Ligue 1 club Lyon is that Grenier is being lined up as a possible replacement for Yohan Cabaye, should he be snapped up by Paris St-Germain this week.

PSG played down talk that they’d bid for Cabaye yesterday afternoon with claims in the French media that the £14million price tag had simply been discussed.

If Cabaye were to leave, Lyon star Grenier would be the potential replacement for the influential Toon star.

Although with Napoli already having a reported €16million bid for Grenier turned down, Newcastle would have to up the stakes.

With the transfer window due to close on Friday night at 11pm the concern for Newcastle fans would be whether United have time to get a player in should Cabaye be sold.

Newcastle may look to cash in on Cabaye though given under FIFA rules, Cabaye could buy out his own contract for just £6million in the summer with the Webster rule allowing players to buy out the last two years of their contract.

I remember his goal against Real Madrid. Just saw it again, absolutely ridiculous goal

Search "Grenier no look goal"

Terrific take  We'll see over the next few days if our interest is genuine. Would suggest that if we are in for him, then Cabaye is off and soon.

Thank God there's only a week left, I was worried we might actually have to spend some money there. Can never be too careful these days with cash being so short for Premier League football clubs.
