It depends on where you want to be , you will obviously comfortably overtake the likes of us again with all the resources you have and wage budget etc that we will never be able to compete with, you are a million miles away from say challenging for the title though which is ultimately what you should be judged against .

Noticed against Bournemouth that he was frankly terrible with his passing. He would dally and then try something he hasn't got the ability to achieve. He was trying to play well out of his comfort zone.

 

I'm pretty sure we targetted him for the press when he was at PSG. He's just really limited with the ball, a passenger in possession. Which I guess a midtable team can carry, but if you are genuinely ambitious, you aren't looking at him.

I can say with confidence, if Ugarte is a mainstay CM for Man Utd under Amorim, they're fucked and won't be closing on top 4. He's not the CM to play in a middle 2, even more so with 3 CBs. Need someone who can actually progress the ball and more break the lines with the ball, not just do a limited aspect of one part of the game. There's not a CM in Man Utd collection that can do that.

Thank you for the info on Garnacho, but it does reinforce my point. What the player did was clearly a disciplinary issue so why did Amorim try to assert that it wasn’t? If you can’t be honest, then it’s better to say nothing rather than end up lying. What’s worse, he hinted about the truth in his public statement. It feels inept to me. 
 

On Rashford, you have my sympathy. He is a good player but not a great one, yet somehow he’s ended up with a great player’s contract and is not delivering. That’s a problem without a solution because getting rid of him won’t be easy. I don’t think he’ll want to go to Saudi. 
 

A final point - with Garnacho and Diallo you could have a deadly wing combination for many years. However, I think that would only work in a 4-4-2 because I can’t see that you could play both as wing backs. A manager who is wedded to only one formation may not be what you need.

Amorim comes across well, but the majority of their players are dullards and can't play his football. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out, it looks like they will need a lot of new players to play Almiron's football.

 

No idea how they will manage such an overhaul.

All fair points. Some I disagree with, some I don't.  Amad can play wing back with no issues, I don't think Garnacho has the discipline for it though.

The reality is that Howe’s start was just as dismal. It would be great if they continue to struggle but I’d be careful about gloating and piling in, especially when we play them twice more at least.

How many sides over the past decade have played 3 at the back in the Prem and done well?

 

Conte is only one in 16-17 I can think of, but he was inheriting a side that had just won the league 12 months earlier and even that came with a one season high only. So playing likes of Moses at RWB was caveated with multiple title winners, elite players in their positions such as Hazard / Kante.

 

Feels Premier League is such in depth with sides that have good wide players, good level of coaches, midfielder runners, that a 3-4-3 is going to be exploited more often than not Amorim has ever experienced. Bar is that low for Man Utd, their fans are already happy to write off a season so can just keep talking smoothly to avoid early criticism.
