Of course, people can do whatever they like, especially if they can afford to. But we can't expect the quality (ultimately the value) of these things to improve at all as long as people keep stumping up.

I obviously appreciate the uptick in our commercial performance but at the same time I lament the piss-take prices, particularly given the shoddy quality in Adidas' case. It's a contradiction tbh.

The break in logical thinking among humans when it comes to the fact "higher price = higher demand" in certain sectors has always baffled me. If they priced the shirt at a reasonable price, the demand would likely be lower due to the actual lack of quality. However, because it's priced high, it creates a false feeling in the buyer that they're getting something "more exclusive", which they view as more important than lack of quality - and thus the cycle keeps repeating.

It actually looks like a knockoff :)

The stripes are wrong, for starters.  The OG kit had five white stripes on the front - the sleeves met with a white stripe at the shoulder.

£90 is a joke.  All we need is Shepherd and Hall in a Spanish brothel laughing at the support for buying this shite.

People should be able to do whatever they want with their money, buy the kit, don't buy the kit, etc. the base line thought here is the club are doing better in merchandising, there are a ton more B&W kitted up, Toon badged up people out there now than before and for that, we should just enjoy that.

I can remember when what would be discussed is the fact that football is a working class game, that Newcastle is in the poorest region of the UK, and many families would struggle to afford to buy their kits this stuff even though of course they’d want it like their mates.  And the fact that most of this stuff is manufactured for buttons in a sweatshop in countries with lax labour laws, so they don’t need to be charging anything like this kind of coin.

Have they changed the proportions - made it less wide and  boxy- and consequently lost the white stripes at the edges

Looks like it, more than likely using a standard adidas kit shape.  Which is less of an issue were they not selling these things at such a premium.

Tbf it was almost 30 years ago. They are never going to be able to replicate it. It’ll only be ‘premium product’ if the quality is good and it’s at least close to the original

They’d have been better off releasing this version as the actual kit for next season tbh. People would lap it up without the inevitable criticism of it being slightly different from the original.

Small brown ale issue there

With a different sponsor, obviously.

Yeah I know but obv the brown ale sponsor is big part of why that shirt is so popular. It’s an iconic sponsor of the premier league…the blue star

Next season i'd prefer if they actually did their fucking job and design a kit we haven't seen before.

Pretty sure there will be two kits you haven't seen before, and one throwback. Same as this sesaon...

They were all pretty much throw backs this season

home one is very similar to the 2001-03. Away obviously 95/96 and the 3rd 99-2000

Seems like the blue star still can be used, like Newcastle Blue Star FC do. Was it the brewery that introduced it?

That’s a good question. Personally I preferred the blue star of the 80s and early 90s on the asics kit a lot more than the brown ale bottle label

I like how they've changed the box fit to a more modern style fit, probably not a widely shared view.

But I'm big and tall and the old sizes were atrocious in length for bigger bois, they just got wider [emoji38]

Still feel like the material looks exactly like them score draw remakes which I always thought were too lightweight in comparison to my old one, although I may be misremembering.

Yeah I really disliked the score draw remake of it

Eh? All three were throwbacks.

Of course they would, they literally own the design specification.

Things are just made differently 30 years on. Different materials. I’m no expert but imagine it would be very difficult

If they wanted they could but just like every release by adidas so far it’s been incredibly lazy

Fair enough I was trying to be fair to adidas but if they are selling a score draw standard retro with the adidas logo added for £90 that’s ridiculous.
