I thought they didn’t have any legal right to ban them from the league??

Their new mid week league will break the competition of the Premier League, im sure there are rules in their but I suppose time will tell.

Gary Neville has spoken really well on this, as has Carragher.

It just struck me though, if Project Big Picture had been waved through then the six clubs could have presumably implemented this without consequences, and anything else they wanted for that matter.  Was so short sighted of Neville to publicly back that proposal when it would have left English football with no power in these situations.

Quote

Everton is saddened and disappointed to see proposals of a breakaway league pushed forward by six clubs.

Six clubs acting entirely in their own interests.

Six clubs tarnishing the reputation of our league and the game.

Six clubs choosing to disrespect every other club with whom they sit around the Premier League table.

Six clubs taking for granted and even betraying the majority of football supporters across our country and beyond.

At this time of national and international crisis - and a defining period for our game - clubs should be working together collaboratively with the ideals of our game and its supporters uppermost.

Instead, these clubs have been secretly conspiring to break away from a football pyramid that has served them so well.

And in that Pyramid Everton salutes EVERY club, be it Leicester City, Accrington Stanley, Gillingham, Lincoln City, Morecambe, Southend United, Notts County and the rest who have, with their very being, enriched the lives of their supporters throughout the game's history. And vice versa.

The self-proclaimed Super Six appear intent on disenfranchising supporters across the game - including their own - by putting the very structure that underpins the game we love under threat.

The backlash is understandable and deserved – and has to be listened to.

This preposterous arrogance is not wanted anywhere in football outside of the clubs that have drafted this plan.

On behalf of everyone associated with Everton, we respectfully ask that the proposals are immediately withdrawn and that the private meetings and subversive practises that have brought our beautiful game to possibly its lowest ever position in terms of trust end now.

Finally we would ask the owners, chairmen, and Board members of the six clubs to remember the privileged position they hold – not only as custodians of their clubs but also custodians of the game. The responsibility they carry should be taken seriously.

We urge them all to consider what they wish their legacy to be.

All you can hear from the ESL side is "commercial approach, financial resources, economic growth," etc.

That's why it's reassuring, but confusing, to see such widespread objection. Ordinarily, in the political world, those words would generate widespread support. Maybe the tide is changing.

Probably a tsunami to wipe us all out, like.

The widespread objection comes as those words are only meant for 6 clubs out of however many in the English football pyramid.

Could simply disband the Premier League and the small 14 rejoin the Football League as part of a massive reset and rebuilt. Bring in the Scottish FA to promote some joint competitions.

With some bold and creative thinking this could be a huge opportunity to build and improve on what is already there. Any notion of a big 6 is fluid, 10 years ago Liverpool were hours away from going bust and were midtable despite being a powerhouse 10 years before that. 15 Years ago Arsenal were second only to Man Utd, who were Spurs then exactly? City - third tier weren't they?

That's not decrying achievements of any club, its just highlighting that new giants can and will emerge but we will have a good run where everything is up in the air and competition is king

The sense of entitlement is bizarre. Yes, they have a huge international following and a lot of recent success, but they've bought it, all of it. Their plastic fans would be following Blackburn or Leeds if they had bought their way to success.

They genuinely think that the league will fold without them?

Out of all the clubs’ representatives in the meeting today, we are the ones I worry about. Mike is by far the most easily corruptible. He wants out and couldn’t give a shit what football looks like after he’s left. If the greedy 6 want to bribe one of the little 14 to leverage things behind enemy lines, Mike’s their man.

Ian: How can football fans be surprised that this has happened, given the abuse & vitriol directed at club owners? There is a massive fan base in other parts of the world, and those fans don't insult the owners after every match! Some idiot posted this on the BBC site!

The lack of a statement from NUFC is telling. Ashley would bite this lots hand off, for an invite. Just think of all that exposure for SD!

To be fair, 12 other clubs haven't officially commented either (suppose you could maybe class Parish's interview as official).

I do agree with the sentiment, though. Ashley would be like a rat up a drainpipe.
