When you think about it other than on the pitch and the tedious post match interviews you actually don't see much of the players and their personalities. Sports journalism as a general rule is so poor and rumour based it's nice to see behind the scenes. The hyperbole around football is generated by that vacuum with words like mercenary, traitor, hero etc. A more balanced and nuanced style of journalism needs to come to the fore. Kompany comes across particularly well - seems like a really likeable and articulate bloke. Similarly, De Bruyne seemed like a great pro - quiet but a leader on and off the pitch. Guest Howaythetoon Posted August 24, 2018 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Watched the first episode, cleverly narrated and presented and kind of interesting from a football nerd perspective if you like, but nothing revealing and almost exclusively scripted to sell the Man City brand and narrative under their owners to a wider audience. What it does serve is that since we were both taken over, we have went from being a club Man City couldn’t compete with to a club we may as well be in a different sport to as there is no comparison. I wouldn’t be watching that if it were us being documented with ease or a feeling of satisfaction mind. There is a kind of fakeness about Man City IMO, basically the Las Vegas of football. Would I swap places with them? Idealistically no, but if you can’t beat them join them and I know enough about the history of our game to accept that football today isn’t so different to football of yester year in many ways. Fans lost their clubs to rich and powerful owners or business well before Englamd were even winning the WC in ‘66 on TV to a world wide audience... Today though it’s deviated so much from its roots and is far too commercialised and relies on wealthy people, business’ and TV companies to the point where TV companies could replace real fans with CGi and sound effects if they wanted to so irrelevant are fans nowadays in the grand scheme of things when it comes to them being the benefactor of their clubs. Also liked Bernardo silva and don't mind Walker tbh. Would definitely get fucked off with Delph though,he thinks he's far better than he actually is. Also expected Pep to be a lot more tactical,I know they cut a lot of his tactics out as to not give anything away but a lot of what he said tactics wise was quite obvious,it seems he really struggles tactically against teams that attack too. Guest covmag Posted August 25, 2018 Share Posted August 25, 2018 just watched the last episode of All or Nothing. it had me thinking do we at NUFC have these sort of backroom staff ? its on a level very few can comprehend, the training centre is incredible, its an insight into a machine, a money machine. I enjoyed it but fuck me that club is on a different planet in England in every way. i want to hate City fans but i know they stuck with them in the shit years, would i like this at NUFC , hell yes. The levels of investment it’s taken to get them there so quickly is something we could only dream of. The number of backroom staff they had alone must be double the number at NUFC. What surprised me is their whole team from the players to the backroom team and even Pep all seem really likeable even the M.D. And you have to love Vincent Kompany, that scene when he was talking to kids about Mandela and one asked what his crime was and Kompany said because he is black... Pep is too intense for me though, I don’t think his methods would work at a club over say a span of 6 or more years as everyone would burn out and probably start on each other. Delph came across as someone who looks way out of his depth in terms of being a footballer at that club and him shouting and balling and telling people to run and fight is probably his way of trying to fit in based on how he has been schooled in football. He come across as a bit of a dick, but I don’t think he is. Him saying they lost against Man Utd I think because players didn’t run hard enough or get stuck in sums up British football, it’s not his fault though, that’s how he would have been instructed or coached as a kid. Pep isn’t this all out attack attack coach, he is more tactical than I thought he would be and although he wants his team to play great football, winning is more important. Loved the scenes with Silva with his boy, Sergio with his and Mendy seems a great character. I hate everything about how the likes of City and Chelsea have went about becoming these elite clubs, but if you watch this documentary you can’t help but like that team. Chelsea I’ve always hated and there is nothing likeable about them or has been. Pep though, I prefer watching Liverpool over City and other teams’ style of play, but what an individual, someone I’d love at the Toon one day. No chance though!
