Wissa was only a mistake in hindsight.  He was proven, available and wanted to come.

We paid over the odds to get him in and he hasn't worked.

Like I said, it's fine to make mistakes in the transfer market, it happens at all clubs. I just think it's not right to blame the board for those mistakes and absolve Howe when he had a bigger say than ever last summer due to having his own guys in charge of recruitment. Including his nephew.

If Howe had got one of Ekitike, Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo or Delap.  Players he had liked for some time I would agree.  But Woltemade was a panic move.. Driven mainly by the board to justify the Isak sale.

We couldn't keep Isak.  So needed someone, anyone.

in hindsight, would probably have been better off just using Gordon till the Xmas window, rather than two pretty much useless panic buys.

That said, it's also been shown that we had a miniscule amount of decent training this season, something like seven instances where there's been more than singular days for Eddie to get the players working together and new players up on how we do things, as well as anything he wanted to try in the comps we've been in. All in all, this has been an awful season, with a thin on quality squad, even with the last minute, emergency buys who haven't really been able to bed in properly.

What makes you think it was driven mainly by the board? By whome exactly? There was no DOF in place.

No arguments there, we tried to deal with it by signing extra players to beef up the squad, but those players didn't really have the impact we were hoping.

Why do a few people keep bringing this up for, it's the same for every club who plays in Europe. What's the outcome we never strive for Europe because we get less time to train?

It is however right to blame the board for allowing a situation where there was no executive management above Howe and he had to take that responsibility, along with Nickson and Howe.

They were placed in a position that should never have transpired.

Agree. But that doesn't mean that the board signed Woltemade over Howe's head which is what was implied.

That's an unbelievable way to describe what happened.

Considering how far down the list Woltemade was, do you think he was very keen on him?

I don't think anyone was blameless last summer but I think it's fair to say that no manager should really have to be put in the position he was put in last summer. Which is why he deserves a summer with people actually in roles they should be and part of the season after the fact to see what happens as a result of this summer window before any serious questions are asked.

Especially considering what was achieved prior to last summer.

Aye, how many people want their best player to go on strike and demand a transfer.

Pretty sure he would have said no if he didn't rate him or think he wasn't suitable for his way of playing. As I understand it, Howe has the final say on players he signs.  I don't see why that would have changed with Mitchell leaving and other staff stepping up mostly taking their cue from Howe.

We were linked with Wissa all window, and we wanted Elanga from the 2024 summer. £100 million or so.

Not just that, even though that's a large part of it. But just the huge amounts of responsibility on him, there's a reason most football clubs worth anything have multiple people doing different jobs. In hindsight, that sort of scenario was never going to end well.

We dont know how far down the list he was. Bayern pushed hard for him, that may be the reason we didnt try earlier.

There were no other options.  Who else was available?  Even Woltemade wasn't available but we paid over the odds for him to get his signature.

We were very desperate.

Wissa was Wilsons replacement, yeh.  When he went on strike and Isak also went on strike, we were basically extorted.

Agreed. Pretty sure Howe knows what he's doing with Woltamade, he just needs a bit of patience.

Going after Ekitike, Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo or Delap was poor scouting.

When you have aspirations to improve the first team ..It's really not.

If thats the only criteria for good scouting, then we should go for Lamine Yamal and Haaland in the summer.
