Isak being 'the difference' in a title race next season is just strawman nonsense, it's about strengthening a rival for the next 5 or so years when our aim is to beat them, it's not controversial or anything. It seems that you just don’t accept the premise that we could buy a collection of players for 150m that would be more valuable to us than Isak alone, in which case I can’t really argue. I think the striker search is not nearly as much down to incompetence as not filling in positions lie CB and CM yet is. It's been really shitty luck as much or more than poor execution due to weakened infrastructure, etc. But here we are, after 9th choice players. That alone should probably increase Isak's value to us, since we can't seem to adequately fill his position at the moment.

oldtype
“We don’t want to sell to domestic rivals” is just wholesale emotional nonsense. Fine, quote them an inflated fee, but if your domestic rival is willing to pay it, why on earth would you stop them from making that mistake.

r0cafella
The proceeds are 100m 35is going on a 29j year old back up. So we have 65m left after that then the money is gone. It's not at all transformative.

Okay. Well we can all be the judge on that one. If I want hot water I don't turn the cold on then the hot on a little bit more and make do with warm water, I just turn the hot tap on. Only one will play at a time. If football was a game where each team started with 22 players priced would be much lower. I think one of the points worthy of consideration for selling him is how the money can be used but we need two strikers in an inflated market the timing for all of this is horrible. Why, we’re allowed to use the money to strengthen in positions other than striker.

Palestoon
1 hour ago, oldtype said: I’m repeating myself, but why would we want to deter them if they’re meeting or exceeding our asking price. We want to induce them to do that, if anything. I would say price is just one of the variables that are involved in selling a player. -Timing -PSR situation -Market conditions -Buying club -Optics For Example, if Isak told us in May, this is my last season. I'd like to leave. Barcelona told us they'd be willing to match our asking price. We had time to, and managed to get Delap and Ekitike early doors, no drama etc. That would be a completely different scenario to the one were facing now We may recieve 150 mil in both instances, but they are 2 completely different outcomes for the football club on several levels. People say playing tough doesn't mean anything. Look at this board when anyone mentions going after Geuhi again or trying for Eze. First comment is they dont want to deal with that cunt Parrish again. That should be us. It should be absolute hell to take a player off us we dont want to sell. Adrian1881
150m and let him go...I'm really sad that he didn't see anything outside LFC scavengers...makes you wonder about PIF and its commitments... Hopefully PIF figures it out how to avoid shit like this in future.

It’s true that there are many variables involved in selling a player, but all of that is ultimately factored into the asking price. And having to pay the third largest transfer fee in the history of the world qualifies as “absolute hell” in my book. (Although I don’t really care about the optics or the buying club at all).
