Went to the San Siro last season to watch AC Milan v Atalanta. Milan were utter shite and lost 1-0 but the noise at times was deafening, probably helped by the fact we weren't too far away from the ultras.

When I was at the San Siro for our game in 2023 I hadn't heard a home crowd as loud to be fair. Someone said to me after the game that you use speakers to amplify the sound (not sure if bullshit) but either way, it was deafening at times.

No, the megaphone is only amplified to allow one person to communicate with the entire curva... many years ago, without an amplifier, there were six people with six megaphones along the entire length of the stand, now one is enough.

The amplifier isn't the stadium's, it's ours, and once they let us carry all the equipment to a warehouse inside San Siro. Now we have to carry it all from our headquarters to stadium in 3/4 vans.

Come and check it out if you want.

wey I already said I was there in 2023... are you claiming Milan Ultras do not use speakers?

Maybe I explained myself poorly. There are 9,000 ultras in the second tier of San Siro and the person who has to get these 9,000 to sing can't be heard by everyone without an amplified microphone...but it's only his voice that's amplified not the chants (besides not being technically possible, it would be ridiculous to amplify the chants).

Would never, ever see that over here in England.

But it's normal, everyone has their own way of supporting a team and that's right... in our country it's a cultural phenomenon that developed in a violent political context, that of the 70s, which, apart from the Ulster Troubles, no one in Europe has had (I was a child in the 70s and NEVER went out on Saturday afternoons and neither did my peers).

That's why the Ultras were born in Italy and not elsewhere.

Our songbook is tragic these days like. Relies on ripping off - and butchering - other teams songs.

Ipswich last season was example we do have a canny songbook just don't sing them.

That game we sang about ex players lovenkrands, solano, Gutierrez, Rob lee/Andy Cole/David Kelly alongside a wide variety of other Newcastle songs .

In terms of songbooks you look at Liverpool and Jamie Webster played bog part in getting new songs on the terraces.

Yeah. Ipswich was a quality away end for once. Even the Chancel Mbemba song got an airing.

We still sing at 200 BPM, mind.

Yeah I should have worded it better.

Our back catalogue is sound, we just very rarely use it for some reason. The away games in the 00s and 10s used to have some belters, especially on the coach down. There’s so many good local folk songs that we’ve never adopted either, yet plenty used to/still get played at St James’. You’re right about Jamie Webster though, the Van Dijk song and others were coined by him IIRC. I’m genuinely surprised we don’t have our own version of ‘Allez allez allez’.

I still get PTSD from the 2023 cup final and ‘we’ve got Bruno in the middle’ relentlessly being sang from the minute I got on the train to the minute I left.

Can't remember what away end it was but I remember we sang the gouffran song for an age.

West Brom away we literally sang Peter Lovenkrands for 90 mins, that was a class away end that.

I remember Stoke away we got battered 4-1 and 2nd half we just blasted out we still follow united...

Correct, just surprised we haven’t as we love ripping off the latest fad.

Left it too late I guess. Don’t think we’re actually too bad on that front compared to others.

Our songbook is fucking horrid mind. Our old school chants are good but you only ever hear them on an away day coach or by a handful of people singing them in the corner.

We even have a chant with one word, 3 syllables that we had butchered. UNITED (Toon) - tragic

Ruins the whole thing, that. What's the point in singing a class song like the Blaydon Races if everyone is going to treat it like a race to get the words out?

Said it while watching the CL semi the other day, that Arsenal song is the worst in football, and there are some proper stinking songs out there.

The manufactured nature of it, sung by the twat nepo baby of one of the Birds of a Feather lasses too. Impossible level of cringe involved

Away end was silent on Sunday.

Typical of how they have been for the last two years and no longer noteworthy.

Which is a crying shame really.

What's interesting is arguably the 2 best away ends this season, Man city in cup and Chelsea both dropped to really low points and both allowed for a lot more you get fans to attend.

Maybe we should go down the city route and do a ballot for younger fans so a generation isn't locked out.
