Exactly I’d happily pay over the top again to be at Wembley if I thought the occasion would be worth it.

Yeah we’ll probably get turned over but where used to that, what I’m not used to is how bad our current fanbase is, if I thought our fans would make an occasion of it and you’d hear the Blaydon Races, Geordie Boot Boys and Howay The Lads etc reverberating around Wembley i’d be there come hook, or crook.

Unfortunately those days are gone and it still rankles me now that the Mancs wanted it more than us 2 years ago, it was fucking embarrassing and a major low pissing all over the reputation of a fanbase built over the years, for the Blaydon Races not to be sung once at a major showpiece was sickening and you’ve got to question if we have lost our identity completely at this point.

Following Newcastle home and away down the years and being part of such a loyal, passionate fan base was a source of great pride. Aside from the odd game eg Arsenal SF and PSG (no chance of getting an away ticket) I just don’t get that anymore.

I was at Man City away in the home end and I think I heard our fans 2/3 times properly over 90 minutes.

Like others, whilst I’ll hope for the best on the pitch, I fear for what will, or rather won’t,  happen off the pitch.

Crazy to think that years ago someone would say at closing time "do you fancy going to (name any club in the country) tomorrow" and eight hours later you'd be in the back of a transit van heading down the A1.

The only time I’ve ever done the Transit van thing was Spurs away in the cup in 87, the one where we took 15k down (at least). What an experience that was, camped in a small van with a bunch of mentalists from Walker who had spent the entire night before in The Scrogg on a lock-in. Great times though.

What a great post. You summed it up perfectly. Never ever thought our fanbase would plum to such depths but here we are.

Probably the most fighting I’ve seen at a match. So many proper radgies made the trip - Spurs fans scattered everywhere

Yep, remember it well. As everyone piled out of the stadium it was like a football fan version of Pearl Harbour. Just people steaming in on each other from all angles.

Another memory of that day was just how many coaches we took down. We parked our van in a back street near the ground and a lot of the coaches parked around there too. I remember counting the coaches as they came past us and there was 50 of them at least on that street alone.
