Surprised no one is picking John Barnes if we’re getting players in their prime.

Scored an absolute belter for us away to West Ham with the outside of his foot.

Full backs where really tough to account for, so i've gone 3-4-3 ultra attacking tactic, and then picked our most defensive manager

Given (Allardyce)

Schar (Bruce)

Coloccini (McLaren)

Botman (Howe)

Solano (Robson)

Cabaye (Pardew)

Lee (Dalglish)

Dyer (Souness)

Ben Arfa (Hughton)

Shearer (Gullit)

Ginola (Keegan)

Super Sub - Shola Ameobi (Roeder) - This was for the lol's

Manager - Rafa Benitez

Poor Rob Lee. His legs would quite possibly fall off as the midfield 1

Beardsley's playing as a 10 but he's under strict instructions to drop into midfield.

But then who needs cover when you have that defence and 87% possession?

Given

Beye (Fat Sham)

Coloccini (Pardzilla)

Woodgate (Sir Bobby)

Domi (Gullit)

Solano (Sounness)

Lee (Keegan)

Wijnaldum (Mclaren)

Perez (Rafa)

Nzogbia (Roeder)

Shearer (Dalglish)

Manager: Howe

Can get more than the sum of his parts and isn't as volatile and open as Keegan. Can manage the youthful, celebrity style players too more than Robson perhaps could.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lee and Wijnaldum dropping in out of possession and interchangeable to make up a 4-1-4-1 in attack. Solano and Nzogbia working the wings and Perez making clever runs off the target man (Shearer) to both create space and chances.

Super Sub: Allain Saint Maximin

Purely for entertainment value

Another attempt from me, this time going for the more difficult getting the player the manager had.

Given (Souness)

Beye (Allardyce)

Woodgate (Robson)

Coloccini (Pardew)

Domi (Gullit)

Solano  (Roeder)

Wijnaldum (McLaren)

Hamann (Dalglish)

Ben Arfa (Hughton)

Isak (Howe)

Shearer (Keegan)

Super Sub: ASM (Bruce)

manager: Benitez

A stretch using the Hughton version of HBA, swap him and Colo round

The Hughton version of HBA was better than the Pardew version (in theory) - because it was pre-leg break.

This one is great - except Solano under Roeder was old and slow by that point. I would put Ben Arfa on the RW and ASM on the left - and then for supersub you could have Martins (or even Solano) for Roeder.

Would also go with Batty under Dalglish over Hamann - he got PFA team of the year in 1998 when we finished 13th (as well as the year before)!

Slightly interesting best XI conundrum to consider.

Pick a best NUFC XI, but you can only have one player per manager, e.g Isak and Bruno only played for Howe so you couldn’t have both.

players do not have been signed by a manager, just played for them.

I am discounting interim managers however in the case of Hughton you can choose a player that played for him when he was caretaker.

you must choose from 13 managers as per the list below. Pick 12 is a super sub and the manager not selected manages the team.

Howe

Bruce

Benitez

McLaren

Pardew

Hughton

Keegan (either spell)

Allardyce

Roeder

Souness

Robson

Gullit

Dalglish

Following your rules, I’m going with a 3-3-4 formation - it’s all-out-attack time:

Given (Allardyce)

Schar (Bruce); Woodgate (Robson); Coloccini (Pardew)

Lee (Gullit); Batty (Dalglish); Wijnaldum (McClaren)

Beardsley (Keegan); Shearer (Roeder); Isak (Howe); Robert (Souness)

Super sub: HBA (Hughton)

Manager: Benitez
