Kitman
I agree with Gemmill. The status quo suits Shepherd better, he can indulge his titanic ego without risking his own money. I would have though if he wanted to take over, his best bet would be fronting a consortium rather than a bank loan, in which he was the biggest shareholder. Call me cynical, but use of the word 'brand' to describe our club worries me slightly. I have no problem with it at all. Im sure someone at Chelsea keeps saying the same thing about them, and IIRC someone at Barca or Madrid coming out with it as well not so long ago. Dokko
Just dying to be owned by some huge funding company or what ever  Just dying for change, at least it wont be misguided and a plan will be there somewhere. I could quite happily wait patiently under a new regime, i've ran out of that stuff with this one. Just noticed how many news sources are running the same story today, hopefully the ball is picking up pace.
Guest 1nol
You're probably right, it just stuck out to me in that article. I'd never really thought of us a 'brand' before. It's not like you can pick a better option if the brand you currently use isn't performing to your liking.

It's not like you can pick a better option if the brand you currently use isn't performing to your liking. I know not club quotes but the term brand is used around the globe http://www.cnn.com/2006/SPORT/football/11/27/world.brands.reut/index.html?section=cnn_latest Evening times, and other sources all call clubs as Brands, stock markets and business people again refer to them as brands, tbh, this just shows the people that are looking at us as highly trained business men, (rightly or wrongly) i find that comforting. Guest 1nol
It's just a business term then. I can't even put my finger on why it worries me a little. It was the part of that article that stuck in my head and I'm probably just reading too much in to it.
ToonDevil
I'm actually encouraged, if anything, by the use of "brand." It would appear that Belgravia have a vision of what NUFC could/should be. In today's global world, success is all about brand recognition. Bigger, better, more well-known brand = more streams of income.
Guest sittingontheball
Instead of calling NUFC a brand, Belgravia could just get pissed and laugh at the numpties who pay 40 quid for a 5 quid shirt and poke their noses into team matters. Like our current dear leader. With his sidekick, Mr. Douglas Hall. What does that man do for the money we pay him?At least Marcelino played the odd game for the stiffs. Mr. Glazer may not be the reason, but his team with its new 17m midfielder are top. Mr. Abramovitch's galacticos are second. Mr. Madjewhatever's minnows are right up there. Mr. Lerner's also rans are too. Good ol' Mr Shepherd's national laughing stock are 17th. To think if Belgravia come in and screw up, we could fall a maximum of three places!!! bluebigeek.gif bluebigeek.gif bluebigeek.gif

Mick
Shepherd has nothing like the sort of money to buy NUFC outright. Not gonna happen. You'll be able to afford the club if Shepherd is around for much longer.

Guest Invicta_Toon
Sorry to pour cold water on all this takeover talk, but in my opinion Shepherd will not sell. Belgavia are trying to get the fans onside by spouting about strengthening the team in January. I suggest that Shepherd will string out the negotiations so that a takeover could not be completed, before or during the transfer window, in the hope that Belgravia will back off for a while. He will then use that intervening period to try to obtain enough shares to mount a takeover himself. This is what business men do for fun (and money) so rest assured the fans preferences will only come to the fore when both parties are considering how best to fleece them of their money. Period! Shepherd has nothing like the sort of money to buy NUFC outright. Not gonna happen. he won't but outright he will take on a new silent partner to get enough wedge to go private then the 2 will be happy to share out the profits, free from all that pesky oversight and takeover rumours
Crumpy Gunt
Begravia hope to have the takeover complete in time for the January transfer window - according to the Mirrors Journo on CH5 sport show. Guest kiwi
So some of you rejoice at the use of the word "brand". Branding is the advertising buzz word for identifieable and targetable commodity. Stork is a brand, Persil is a brand, Anchor butter is a brand. Stork: spreads straight from the fridge, low fat, low cholesterol etc. Persil; washes whiter, quicker, less effort, better results and doesn't clog the washing machine. Butter; natural goodness. All positive qualities The ad men don't give you the bad news however. Its all positive reinforcement. NUFC - your club, your passion, your life - buy merchandise to reinforce the positives. That you might live in Upper Volta is irrelevant - its your dream, your desire, your need - all for 30 quid. OK its not that crude but anyone buying Toon is going to want a fu--ing sight bigger return on their investment than a name on the shirt or St Jamess Belgravia Park. Considering the options for their money whereby investing in high risk hedge funds can return 48% we are a poor option. So, if Belgravia do want us its not entirely for the brand. On the other hand owning a football club carries responsibilities. Return on investment. Toon would have to be successful and buy successful players. Beckhams transfer fee was recouped by Real Madrid in 12 months Right then. Buy Toon, invest in a top Manager, buy 100 million of very good players and become top 4 in the PL. This increases our brand awareness in Europe, which because of world wide exposure of the CL increases wider brand awareness, brings higher football related profits and increases merchandice sales world wide. Trickle down 25 - 30 million to continually rebuil and cream off the rest. Building a casino next door which would yield profits of 50 million pa is incidental. Yep. Belgravia could be good for us if PROFESSIONALS are in charge and the core business is not neglected or bypassed . After all we all know /knew Highbury. I'm sure we now know Emirates Stadium. :flasher:
Guest ChickenKiev
Take a look half way down this page (or just do a search for newcastle). skryp2nit3
Liverpool's listed on the table as well. Could mean that something is happening. Under the provisions of Rule 8.3 of the Takeover Code (the "Code"), if any person is, or becomes, "interested" (directly or indirectly) in 1% or more of any class of "relevant securities" of Premier, all "dealings" in any "relevant securities" of that company (including by means of an option in respect of, or a derivative referenced to, any such "relevant securities") must be publicly disclosed by no later than 3.30 pm (London time) on the London business day following the date of the relevant transaction. This requirement will continue until the date on which the offer becomes, or is declared, unconditional as to acceptances, lapses or is otherwise withdrawn or on which the "offer period" otherwise ends. If two or more persons act together pursuant to an agreement or understanding, whether formal or informal, to acquire an "interest" in "relevant securities" of Premier, they will be deemed to be a single person for the purpose of Rule 8.3. Under the provisions of Rule 8.1 of the Code, all "dealings" in "relevant securities" of an offeror or of Premier by an offeror or Premier, or by any of their respective "associates", must be disclosed by no later than 12.00 noon (London time) on the London business day following the date of the relevant transaction. A disclosure table, giving details of the companies in whose "relevant securities" "dealings" should be disclosed, and the number of such securities in issue, can be found on the Takeover Panel's website at www.thetakeoverpanel.org.uk.
