Skirge
Lets hope they stick to it, we all know how much Fred loves a double your money offfer. Toon will 'slap down' bids for Oba Jan 21 2007 By The Sunday Sun Newcastle are vowing to "slap down" any cheeky late bids for Obafemi Martins this month. Chelsea were linked with the Nigerian striker, left, early in January, and some sources suggest the struggling champions are still keen. But United boss Glenn Roeder has well and truly nailed the idea that his nine-goal top scorer will be prised away from St James's Park. Asked if he had fielded any enquiries for Martins, Roeder said: "There has been nothing official, but anything that did come in would be slapped down. "I would expect Oba to be here for many seasons and score many goals." Roeder added: "He is young, and there are lots of reasons why he took time to settle in here - and still hasn't fully settled in. "But the prospect of Shola Ameobi and Michael Owen being fit along with Oba looks very interesting for us." In terms of incoming signings, Roeder insisted: "I want young players and want to bring the average age of the squad down. "The chairman is trusting me with a significant amount of money and I don't want to bring in players who will lose value like a driver driving a car off the forecourt. "I am aware that £10 million for Oba Martins looked a lot of money, but there is a player who I have brought in who has gone up in value. "If you want to win something you have got to get players who are on the way up, not down."

Cajun
Don't want to start any wild speculation but Giles Barnes didn't come off the bench yesterday for Derby
Elephant
Seems identical to story about Woodgate before he was sold. "He's not for sale - not for any price". Well, the difference is of course than Martins actually plays.

indi
Will be sold then. Yeah, they're probably seeing what they could get for him, hopefully no-one's interested, why would he talk about it otherwise.
LoveItIfWeBeatU
Considering he is our only fit first team striker there is no way NUFC would sell him.
indi
If Chelsea came along with £15-20m, do you think we'd turn that down? I'm not so sure.
Guest optimistic nit
i would have been up for selling him for 25+ as we could have do wounders for the squad with, but its too late in the window for that and i wouldn't trust shepheard and roeder with my dinner money.
