Was in there too. Think it’s decent up there, stood all game, great view.

I sat in LV7 for a few years and it's a great view of Newcastle and Gateshead (especially when the game are shite).

Was in the returned away seats today and, fuck me, it's such a striking view. Never seen anything like it in all the other grounds I've been to. Not passing judgement on what's actually best, but think a Gallowgate expansion with the East as it is would *look* class - still view of the city, big imposing stadium.

You're not there to look at the scenery, you're there to watch a football match. People whinge on about a new stadium being soulless yet there's no more soulless experience than being stuck up in Level 7 with a better view of the city than the match, and believe me I've had plenty of experience.

And please nobody even embarrass themselves by mentioning that we'll lose the atmosphere after today. Place needs a bloody good shake up and a new ground is the easiest way to do it. Hopefully some of the dead wood take a huff and piss off.

Because when go to a football match I'd rather look at said football match rather than admire the views of Walker or Gateshead?

If that's the case then aye I'm weird [emoji38]

Weird for getting irate over something so inoffensive.

I'm not irate at all [emoji38] When I look straight ahead inside a football ground I prefer to look at like minded football fans rather than the Byker Wall, that's all.

Fucking hell  Quite aware cheers. Believe it or not I was there during half time and before the match too where I wasn't analysing the warm-up. I noticed the view. I could see the match just fine from Level 7 too, a lot better than at Spurs' new stadium. This is a thread about the stadium, and sometimes I notice things about the stadium.

You shouldn't even be noticing you had a better view of the city, your eyes should be firmly fixed on the pitch like a proper fan.

Besides, it was a lot less souless for me up there in L7 than it has been in any of my games in the lower Leazes.

Fair enough. The atmosphere was once again dead today and in parts of L7 your 1/4 mile from the centre circle. Sometimes when you're that far away from the action your concentration can wither somewhat I find and I speak from plenty of experience. I just find that I feel detached from it all when I sit up there.

Agree the Leazes End is dreadful as well. In fact I'm struggling to think of any positives for the argument to remain at SJP.

Nah, Level 7 detaches you from the game significantly.

I don’t need to replicate the 2D view in FM while freezing my bollocks off in the winter.

Lvl7 = watching dots on a postcard.  Went up there once, never again.  You’re removed from the feeling of being at the match and it’s an atmosphere-less anodyne experience.

Atmosphere in the block next to the away end was better than anywhere I’ve sat for the last season and a half, aside from the Strawberry corner. Safe standing the reason imo.

Give owa, man. Unless your eyesight is absolutely shocking it's nowhere near as bad as you make it sound. My 64 year old fatha can see from the very back just as well as I can.

I was right up there for the Brentford league cup match and the atmosphere was better than expected. Admittedly it really helped being in the safe standing section.

I prefer to be closer to the pitch but don’t think it feels that much different to being high up in other big grounds. In terms of view of the game it’s better than lowdown , but I like to feel close to the players.  As far as atmosphere, as said, was actually one of the better ones I’ve experienced - cos of the standing

20/20 vision based on my last check at the opticians last month :)

My one time up there predated safe standing tbf, which hopefully would have improved the atmosphere

But the view is shite

I think there's a bit of revisionism going on here like  I don't think anybody is claiming that SJP is always a fearsome cauldron of noise in 2025, more that a new stadium is unlikely in itself to improve matters.

It's starting to feel like folk believe with sophisticated engineering we can maybe amplify the muttering and groaning of the long suffering NUFC crowd into a rousing and appropriately paced Blaydon Races with perhaps enough residual sound energy trapped in the clever design to drive a turbine, sell a bit of electricity to the National Grid and sort our PSR issues

I don't think anyone is suggesting that a new ground automatically equals better atmosphere.

You could build the most acoustically perfect cauldron on the planet but that guarantees nothing. What a new ground could provide is the chance to allow or indeed encourage like-minded fans to all be in the same area. "The Grumpy old Boomer Stand" or "Uncle Buzzcock's Stand Up and Gan Radge Stand"...

The only way you're going to achieve that is by uprooting season ticket holders en masse - in theory there's nothing stopping the club doing that now but it's probably an easier sell if you're starting from scratch.

A new ground does allow for like minded folk who want to make some (positive) noise to be all sat together though. Foolish to think that it wouldn't improve the atmosphere if we had a designated end behind one of the goals for the more vocal fans instead of them all being dotted around in small groups as they currently are.

The away fans need moving to pitch level, that would immediately improve the atmosphere.

Where would you put them? I know they used to be in the Leazes NE corner before the expansion. Would seem weird having them anywhere in the lower bowl.

Even just bringing back the old Leazes corner would be sound imo.

I think the problem is that everyone regardless of how they sing, will want to be sat there. The only 2/3 reasons why someone say in the East stand won’t sit in that area would be price, safe standing (if they are older), and the fact that they don’t sit along the pitch and see behind 1 goal. If those aren’t factors in them, then they will all choose to sit there to claim that they are part of the noise.
