Disgrace to the captains armband

Christ almighty KP, did you SEE the game today?

Yip, and last weeks, and last months - he still isn't good enough - why not give the armband to Nicky Butt, a player with experience, maturity and an ability to play the game AND lead the team

Nothing against Parker as a person (and I have met him on a few occassions) just he is not good enough to command the most important position in the team AND be captain as well, maybe he will play better without the blood supply in his arm being restricted !

This has got to be a wind-up, surely. Yes, let's make Nicky Butt the captain. He has always shown passion and drive for the cause, especially that one day in Cardiff and for that season where we had to ship him out to Birmingham on loan. Yes, that man who is so full of maturity that he gets involved in countless scraps (AZ being the latest), yes that player who is twice the football player that Scott Parker is.

Brilliant idea, mate. I'm all for it. Nicky Butt, the saviour of Newcastle United F.C.

Butt? I'd rather make Bramble the captain.

No passion, no drive,

Yeah thats parker.....get a clue MATE

Aye, like that time he almost passed-out on the pitch against Arsenal and lost teeth along with it IIRC. He doesn't give a toss, man.

Criticise him for his poor play at times but to say he doesn't care for the cause is utter rubbish.

Never said he doesn't care - I said he wasn't good enough - I agree he has shown committment but not recently, not since he was captain and certainly not when the team needed him most

He is not alone, I agree, there are many others, and I am sure everyone has their own opinion (as is being shown by the responses) so lets agree to disagree

Not sure why he's captain at all tbh. Often gives his all, but he offers nothing by way of encouragement and instruction to others that I can see.

Who does, though? Who in our entire squad seems to do this "talking" that people speak of?

Butt Captain

The same player that in his first full season, was a disgrace to the erm, shirt. I suppose that is less of a crime than being a disgrace to the armband though, when I think about it...

FFS

Something to 'work on' perhaps?

Saying that, Given seemed to be screaming in his uber-high squeal far more than usual today, from what the microphones picked up at least.

The whole squad is devoid of inspiration from what I can see. Parker seems to be one of the few options in an extremely bad bunch. I don't particularly like the bloke, really, but the flak he takes is unreal. At least the bloke has the bollocks to accept responsibility the majority of the time.

He wasn't even as bad as he normally is today, I thought. Cannot believe another thread has cropped up like this when his performance was a lot better than it has been recently. Am I the only one who doesn't see him giving the ball away "all of the time"? I generally tend to think he's one of our only players capable of retaining posession.

Pathetic thread. Utterly pathetic. Fair play he's not doing very well right now, but that goes for the entire team. In relation to his captaincy, I fail to see how he is a 'disgrace'. You're just looking for someone to blame everything on. I'm sick of cynical moaners scapegoating players on here.

THEY'RE ALL TO BLAME.

Roeder's already said we're going to be buying loads of these "talkers", though. Let's hope that for once he comes through. He does seem to realise it's a problem and I'm sure he is working on it, as you say

Wind up statement, but can't resist- sorry:

It's easy not to give the ball away when you turn around so much you wind up disappearing up your own arse with it

End of wind up

By being captain he takes on the role of being the primary scapegoat though, to be fair.

Oh aye, which is why I've said in a previous thread on here that "at least he accepts the responsibility". I honestly can't see a viable alternative though in the current squad, we are going to have to buy a captain to take the armband off him, if that's even possible to do.

I thought Parker had a decent game today, when dyer came off he linked up with emre well. I do however concede that he isn't the best captain in the world. Its not like lack of drive or passion, i just don’t think he has the correct qualities to be a captain (similar to beckham and england imo). The problem is I don’t think we have a player that does hold the grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drive the team forward mentality like a good captain should have.

A good captain should play with their heart on their chest like Shearer or Keane; we don’t have anyone like that.

This is the line that wound me up the most;

No passion, no drive, no communication to his other team mates

I appreciate passion and drive do not alone make an average/bad player a good one, but by saying that you give me the impression you don't really watch many NUFC games, if any.

By being captain he takes on the role of being the primary scapegoat though, to be fair.

I know, I'm well aware of that. I don't have an issue with anyone having a go at any of our players but too often I think Parker is blamed far too much for our current failings, captain or not.

This post more or less sums up my thoughts on Parker.

Used to be determined by skin color or whether they were cockneys or not in my day.

I knew my term on basic crowd physcology would come in usefull - as i wrote in my final year - "left to fester without any release, negative frustrations can manifest themselves into a destructive force"  Glad I could help ;)

Heh. Exactly mate, exactly. Everyone needs to release something, rather than just bottle it up and right now there's nowt more that riles me personally than attacks on our Wonderful Capitan. Or El Capitan, as I shall call him from now on.

>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I have NEVER, EVER seen a worse Toon 'captain' than Roeders current favourite - Parker you are a waste of a jersey !!!

No passion, no drive, no communication to his other team mates

Nothing in midweek to suggest he understood the gravity of the situation

Nothing today to show that, according to some, he & Nicky Butt can't play together

Nothing happens unless he gives the ball away and then chases it back, usually conceding a throw in/free kick in the process

Nothing but the habit of managing to turn 360, 540, 720 degrees with the ball before drawing the challenge from the opposing midfield

A captain should lead the team, not by keeping himself to himself and selfishly making sure he can't be blamed for the teams failure but by speaking to HIS team, driving them forward, recognising good play or at least good attempts and bollocking true failures

How insulting it must be to all the previous wearers of the captain armband to watch this cockney mercenary ponce around, marking space and having 2 shots in 90 mins in the name of justifying his place next match

Until Roeder sees sense and realises that the captain of a team needs to do much, much more than just lick arse and give the boss a reach-around we will always have a passenger, unable to pass, late in tackling and beyond compare in lack of accuracy.

Right, rant over, I will take my tablets and resign myself that GR is hardly ever likley to drop his golden cockney barra boy

Shoot me down if you like

ah yes because Parker is the weakest link in our team, and without Parker we'd be flying, why Parker isn't good enough for any Premiership team is he

give your empty head a fucking shake FFS
