Despite the Chronicles spin ....

The bit that is the most depressing is the section which has "liabilities" in it. Ignoring the obvious defence jokes, this is really bad.

A year ago for the first time ever the club announced they had a bank overdraft. Up til then the club had always had moneyin the bank to get by with tday to day things. Suddenly last January they told us they had an overdraft of £17.8m, by last July it was down to £5.5m as the season ticket money came in. This time the overdraft is £20.8m, so up £3m on last year.

The reason this is particulalrly bad is that last sumer season ticket sales were okay, there have been a lot more rumblings this year and it could well be that they will go into next season starting with an overdraft.

In all the short term amount that is owed totals £76.3m. this time last year it was £69.6m

The net worth of the whole business was £56m back in 1998 when it was first a PLC, it is now worth just under £7m. By mid summer the club, with its continuing losses of over £1m per month should be worth nothing. If there is someone out there who understands these things I'd love to kow whether this has any sort of legal ramifications.

Are there any positives to take out of the figures?  I know FFS said the revenues were up, but if Newcastle don't qualify for Uefa or Intertoto, presumably the revenues will go back to where they were the year before last.  I know I've said it before (as have the majority here) but until there is a sensible salary structure in place that is adhered to, things will get progressively worse imho.

What do people make of the dividend situation?

I got better dividends over the last 2 years by quite a lot actually despite the share price not rising as much..

Oh Newcastle.... Well if Shep is claiming we have made a profit im sure they will come back this year.

Is anything going right for the club?

We've lost more money while reducing our squad numbers even further.  We may have earned more because we played in Europe but we'll earn less for the second half as we'll get less prize money for what looks like being a lower final league position this season.

Problem is we get rid of one player and replace him with someone on twice the wages!

the £3.3m owen money is the "minimum secured amount". does this mean it is the amount we've made from our own insurance deal plus stuff we'd get anyway?

I suspect that this is from our own insurance plus standard FA payment as the fight continues for the remainder of Owen's wage

Setting aside the increased TV revenue for one moment.  Each league position equates to roughly 1/2 mil in prize money, so on top of the other issues, ie potentially no European football our current position gives us 2 mil less than last year as well!!

Are we still the 5th best club over the last decade though?

still waiting to hear your master plan to rival Chelsea, and move up from being the 5th most qualified club for europe in the past decade. Not bad considering everyone below us had a "plan" and we didn't.  mackems.gif

Meanwhile, all those trophies we won - pre 1992 - were brilliant, fantastic. That damn board, we won everything before that.  :cheesy:

What we really need is someone with a "plan", better than everyone else's "plan", who always appoint the right manager, and always buy the right players, at the right time, at the right price, just like everyone else does, especially all those clubs that haven't qualified for europe as much as we have done.  mackems.gif

So nothing at all to say about what this thread was originally about? The way we are currently losing money at a fairly rapid rate?

Do you never stop?  Not even in the face of what is a very worrying set of results.  Blaming "the Scottish fuckpig" is no good btw.  He's not the one in charge of the bank account with the enormous overdraft on it, nor is he responsible for the big loss we've just posted.  Fuck knows what it'll be like come the year end, or next year when there's not the extra revenue from Europe.

Pre-1992, McKeag, and all the rest of that blabber means fuck all today when we're in the shit.

In his defence, he was provoked into that response, obvious though it may have been.

Looking at the results, apart from the loss, we actually played something like 30% more games than the previous seasons first half yet we only had a rise of 9% from matchday revenue.

We still don't use injuries as an excuse but we lost 250 senior appearances due to this.

We were again involved with "The Match."

Alan Shearer retired.

One operational highlight was the appointment of Glenn Roeder, another highlight was being 13th in the league in December. bluelaugh.gif

We're going to restructure the club debt.

As for the wording regarding the possible takeovers, did we get an offer which wasn't formal?  Maybe I've just seen too much in the wording used.
