Kewell would demand massive wages and he is always injured, so he would fit right in here but whats the point in signing him?

King Krock has a year left on his contract, so he we have the joy of another year of invisible Harry!

Tuncay, Tuncay and a bit more Tuncay.. is already great friends with Emre and would settle together.

Id still take Distin but Roeder wont touch him. Same I think with Viduka as we will more than likely plump for someone alot younger.

Sidwell id certainly be talking to already.

Wasn't there a rumour in one of the papers a while back that we have already lined up Tuncay for the summer (like the Sidwell rumours)? Or did I just imagine it?

Aye there was a rumour he had signed a pre-contract but I am quite sure the previous/following week the same source had a rumour linking him somewhere else.

Fairly sure it was just some retard 'ITK' on here wasn't it?

"Tuncay Sanli is tipped to leave Fenerbahce in the summer with his likeley destination to be Newcastle and join up with his Turkish teammate Emre, or to another team such as Inter Milan who also showed some interest in the Turkish player."

I seem to remember it being an article more than a "my mate said" but same thing at the end of the day.

  • 2 months later...

Barcelona, Spain (AHN) - The wheelings and dealings in soccer's transfer market were changed forever 12 years ago when the European Court of Justice ruled in favor of a little known midfielder Jean-Marc Bosman, in his contract dispute with Belgian club RC Liege.

The Bosman Ruling, as it came to be known, gave players the freedom to move when their contracts expired, and prevented clubs from stopping top players leaving at the end of their existing deals.

Out-of-contract players were free to demand large signing-on fees and salaries on the basis that the club they intended to join had no transfer fee to pay, and players nearing the end of their contracts could ask for bigger and better deals for staying put because they could leave for free if their salary demands went unheeded.

Many of the less cash rich clubs across the European leagues now use this method to stock their squad with solid professionals, but it's not only journeymen players who benefit from this freeing up of the market. Star players can also move clubs as a Bosman 'free.'

First Class

David Beckham (Real Madrid to L.A. Galaxy), Claudio Pizarro (Bayern Munich to Chelsea) and Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid to Fenerbahçe) are three high-profile players who have benefited from a Bosman transfer this summer.

And in Beckham's case, free is a word that can't be used without blinking. His deal with the Galaxy will be worth a staggering $250 million in salary, commercial opportunities and marketing deals.

Economy

At the lower end of the player spectrum, an annual match between Bosman players from Holland and France has expanded into a full-blown showcase international summer tournament, with teams from Portugal, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland and Slovenia taking part.

Out of contract players will take the field in Lisbon next month and attempt to persuade scouts that they are the missing piece in a club's team jigsaw. Their Mr. 10 percents will be on hand to set the fee.

Standing in Line

But while more moderate talents strive to prove their worth on a pitch in Portugal, several bargains are sitting on the shelf. First team squad members at big clubs that many a coach might like to pick up.

Brazil international centre-back Claudio Cacapa, 31, a mainstay over several seasons at the Stade Gerland, is ready to quit French Champions Olympique Lyonnais, while Liverpool goalkeeper, Jerzy Dudek, A Poland international and the hero of the Reds 2005 Champions League penalty shoot-out victory over Milan is available. Dudek is blocked from regular first team soccer at Anfield by the excellent Jose Reina and is more than ready for a fresh challenge. At 34 years-old, Dudek should, barring injury, have a good four or five years of first class soccer in his hands.

Defender Tal Ben Haim, 25, currently at Bolton Wanderers is a free agent -- but could be quickly snapped up by ex-boss Sam Allardyce who moved to Newcastle United last month -- although Chelsea are also thought to be interested. And 30 year-old midfielder Miroslav Karhan, captain of the Croatia national team is looking for a new club after six years at Bundesliga club VfB Wolfsburg. Karhan is bound to be a bonus to a shaky midfield somewhere.

Portsmouth's Nigerian striker Kanu, 30, has been offered another year's contract at Fratton Park plus the option of a further 12 months, but Kanu wants a longer-term contract and has refused to sign. With both a Champions League and UEFA Cup medal in his trophy cabinet, and a role call of clubs that include Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan and Arsenal, some needy manager should be racing towards the telephone.

Top Pick

But the pick of this summer's Bosman crop must surely be the Argentine international and FC Barcelona striker Javier Saviola.

Relegated by Barca boss Frank Rijkaard to a second-string role this season, Saviola made six starts, came off the bench 12 times, and scored five goals. A long way behind his 36 appearances and 17 goals in the 2001-02 season.

Still only 25 years-old, Saviola, a one-time prodigy with River Plate, has yet to reach his peak. For a club willing to kick-start a stalled career, a veritable bargain awaits
