Goal of the season? Oba v Spuds (a) Save of the season? Krul V Palermo Best team performance of the season? AK Alkmaar at home. 3 players you'd sell Carr, Bramble , Emre 3 players you'd (realistically) buy: Sidwell, Konchevsky, Hoyte, Song (on loan), Player you'd least want to leave Oba! Guess first player we'll bring in Sidwell. Overall view of the season? f****** w***. Will Roeder be in charge on Septermber 1st 2007? Yes. Outlook on next season? Injuries/signings leading us to 7th. It seems a lifetime ago that I was watching us against PSV/Lillestrom/Villareal at SJP. I don't usually feel like that and I'll be interested to see how many people stay behind after the Blackburn match to "cheer" the players. Roeder will probably cancel the lap of "honour" if there are any more performances like Pompey, mind. "Glenn Roeder does not do laps of honour when all we've won is the Intertoto Cup." He was never able to put out a consistent team, and was without two of his best players , ameobi and owen, for essentially the whole season. Granted we've had decent players missing at varying stages, but that doesn't excuse his ineptness. Do you honestly believe that with Owen and Ameobi in the side we'd be doing that much better? I agree with you regarding Owen incidentally but it's a moot point whether Ameobi would have turned our season around. A lot of the players injured - Carr, Baba, Ramage, Moore etc - could arguably have improved the team by being out. I'm generally suspicious about the sheer number of injuries - imo the number is due to either poor training methods, gutless players, or players who aren't fit and never will be. Why should clubs with the resources of Wigan or Reading have infinitely better injury records than us? Given the level of injuries under Souness, imo it's either incredible bad luck or incredibly bad management not to have addressed it by now. Guest JamesD Posted April 17, 2007 Share Posted April 17, 2007 the difference i've noticed with injuries between roeder and souness was that injuries during this season usually happened in games, while under souness every one was pulling up with something in training. And i'm not saying its unfortunate roeder couldn;t have put out his best starting 11 for a run of 20 games, no team does that, i know. But the amount of change week to week in our line up was way worse than what is normal. Also, during janruary, we werent exactly in a position to be clearing out some of our deadwood players like carr, babayaro, etc...because we needed them for cover and getting an adequate replacement in time wasn't really feasable. Obafemi Martins Young player of the season? Stevie Taylor. Individual performance of the season? Not necessarily the best, but one which I really enjoyed - Tim Krul against Palermo. Goal of the season? Oba's cracker against Spurs. Save of the season? Steve Harper's triple save against Bolton. Best team performance of the season? First half against AZ Alkmaar. 3 players you'd sell Luque, Carr, Babayaro 3 players you'd (realistically) buy Wes Brown, Wayne Bridge, Dario Srna [still rate him as a right-back, thought he was brilliant in the World Cup] Player you'd least want to leave Shay Given Guess first player we'll bring in Steve Sidwell (but more likely to be Mark Viduka, I hate to even think about that though) Overall view of the season? Poor. Injuries had a massive influence, but it was very ironic that we looked better when we had loads of injures. Will Roeder be in charge on Septermber 1st 2007? Yes. Outlook on next season? Was away for Souness' full season, fortunately, but all other ones I've attended. The sparsely-populated postgame against Wolves being the main one that sticks out in my mind. I'll still hang around this time, but I won't be applauding heartily. Would be a cracking time for a protest for the doom-mongerers, mind. Someone should look into that.
