Wenger reportedly wants Oba for 13 million according to Sun.

Am holding my breath tbh.

Would be really disappointed if he did leave.

Why?? He can't pass, control a ball or shoot with finesse. He has pace but doesn't use it wisely, never makes top quality strikers runs in the box and his only real asset is smacking the ball as hard as he can and hoping.

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

That's cos he's an inexperienced youngster who isn't the centre-forward he was forced to play as last season.

And you've based all that on one season, under the worst coaching staff in the history of top tier football/sport/life in general.

Can't believe i'm gonna go into this again but i am.

Give the lad credit.

He's 22.

He's never played in the Premiership before.

Serie A and the Premiership are two very different leagues.

He was playing in a shite team.

He was playing under a shite manager.

He never had a consistent/good striker partner.

Plus, more and more and more which i can't be bothered to retrieve from one of the Martins/good/bad debates thread, which have been discussed time and again.

I can't believe what I'm reading, how can you lot want to get rid of Oba?!

Hes fucking quality, very young, powerful, exciting, fast and scores loads of goals!

Couple that with the fact he scored 17 basically up on his own surrounded by shite last season? I just don't get it.

Gudjohnsen? fuck that, how many goals did he score last season? I bet it wasn't 17...

This is the frustrating thing about Martins. On the one hand hes currently an extremely raw player who when hes on an off day, is woeful, and hence its easy to see him go down the same route as the likes of Dyer and Ameobi, ie never improving in these departments.

Yet on the other, its easy to see him turning into a top, top forward under the right coaching, because hes got everything going for him. Both footed, powerful shooting, strong, pace, extremely quick footwork - he just needs to learn some of the basics and do them on a consistent basis. Considering Wenger is probably the best coach and developer of talent in the game, it would be sickening to see him go there and do well.

Let him go at that price (not that the club has much say if Arse pay the release clause fee) & then sign a player who has scored goals last season in a decent league & started most of his clubs games as well.  I hope we don't sign or go after other clubs squad players/bench warmers.

If we were to sign Gudjohnsen though, I'd tip Viduka to get an extra 5-7 goals, other players around him to get a few more each, and Gudjohnsen to get a dozen or so himself.

do we trust allardyce to get in a 20 goal a season striker...he has the cash!!

if he can then let oba go....it works on two levels in that i dont think he's suited for the way allardyce wants to play and i don't think he's suited to arsenals style.

Infact - that's all i'm saying tbh.

Honestly can't be arsed to go into it again. He did fucking well under the circumstances and we're fucked if he goes, cos Owen's off. We'd go from having the best striking line-up outside the Premiership to one of the potentiall weakest, being left with Shola and Viduka. People who want rid were expecting too much too fast and are too difficult to please. Simple as. :D

as it's really very good for someone who can barely play football.

He has pace & a shot so he will always nab goals because of them, the Yak at the Boro looks a crap footballer to me but he is always in the goals.

Aye, and Nut, Gudjohnsen's got no more than two years in him (at his excellent best) at the very most. Martins is lightyears away from his best and is already good.

And in two years, I'd imagine we'll be in a very strong position team-wise to go and sign an even better replacement further down the line.

if he and owen go(personally if we lose one i'd rather it were martins)we have £22mill extra to spend.

Worth letting Allardyce have a pop at it tbh.

I agree. People have just lost the plot now Ashley has arrived. Players like Oba are a rare breed and Sam, plus his new coaching staff, pshysios, etc are the ones to get the best out of him. Oba, Owen, Viduka up front next season would be fantastic! people have such short memories.....*sigh*

Sell Owen and Martins, buy Tevez and another player like Gudjonssen.......palm Stroller off onto somebody like the mackems or smoggies for 2 quid.........and have money left including the 10m yesterday for Owen, is what i would do.

Would be satisfying though if Wenger was thinking, "Yes, I'll sort him out", and in two years time is loaning him out to some mid-table Serie A side because he was wrong.

And only a few weeks left (given the inevitable lenghty sagas) to sign fill the void's that two top class strikers have left. What's the point when we've got what we have? If Allardyce can get it to click, and i think it's worth him atleast having a go, it could be a cum-worthy-ish-ly good forward line. If it doesn't so be it, but it might.

Not rating him has fuck all to do with the new regime from my point of view by the way. It's down to having seen him play. As for Owen, Viduka and Martins up front next season. Where's the width and movement coming from?
