Surprised how negative people are being about Butt. Thought he did well, tbh. Milner motm, but I don't think Nicky was that far behind, tbh.

I thought Butt did well too, along with Milner and Harper.

Shola looked keen and put himself about a bit more than Viduka in his short cameo too, might deserve a start next game.

If Rozehnal's shot had went in I would've gone nuts, good save from a cracking shot!

That would've changed it all but I'm happy really, its steady progress and positive things can taken from the game

BRING ON THE BORO :clap2:

Boring game, i did not expect that type of football at all, every chance we got the ball was hoofed up the pitch

I think Big Sam needs to educate the fans as much as he needs to the players. Expectations are too high: the club's been in the fucking mire for four years now and there's no instant fix. Fans need to lay off the players. Saying Player X is a load of shite after one match with a new system and several new team-mates is out of order.

EVERYONE: FUCKING RELAX!

Anyway, that Alan Smith's shite, innee?

agree. personally i don't think any of our midfielders were awful, just that they're the same type of players doing similar jobs. chelsea would be shit if they had three makeleles in midfield too.

Aye, there's some truth in that. I don't think they were helped by the players in front of them (Milner aside). Viduka looked well off the pace and Martins was a liability. Owen played through the centre and Zog on the other side and we'd look a bit more balanced.

The strikers were a liability? lol, that's the first I've head of that today. Did you actually see the game? How much in terms of service did they receive? Your earlier comment was spot on, as was johnnypd's... 3 Makelele's don't win you games or create opportunities for flatfooted strikers to score with.

Harper- 7 - Not much to do but made a couple of good saves to keep us in game.

Carr- 6 - Didnt do much wrong but didnt do much either.

Rozehnal- 8 - Best defender, had a solid game, unlucky not to score.

Taylor- 5 - Taylor for England? WHAT A JOKE!!! Bramble no 2.

N'Zogbia- 7 - Started well then didnt do much.

Smith- 6 - Still not convinced, average performance, cant see him getting a game when bartons back.

Butt- 8 - Best player, deserved man of the match.

Geremi- 7 - Played ok but not as well as he normally does.

Cacapa- 6 - Pointless bringing him on so late in the game and taking off geremi.

Martins- 6 - Back to his normal self, (rubbish). Should be knocking it past defenders and running after it as he would have easily done bouma for pace.

Owen- 4 - Can only remember touching the ball once. IMO we should try and sell him and go out and buy anelka. Dont think he will play well for us as we have no world class players in our team like he is used to playing with, e.g. beckham/gerrard/whole real madrid team, that will create plenty of chance for him and play amazing balls through to him.

Viduka- 6 - Not convinced. Pace of shearer in his last season for us but no where near as good as shearer. Ameobi was better when brought on.

Ameobi- 6 - Didnt do much but was still better than viduka.

Milner- 7 - Played ok and was one of our better players.

Conclusion: Boring game, Midfield far too defensive, However they worked hard at getting back when we lost the ball. Performance was pretty much the same as when roeder was here at the end of last season but we didnt concede late on.

No, I said Martins was a liability and Viduka was off the pace. Are you mental?

I am. I wasn't nitpicking but you seem to be. Ad verbatim, yes, you said Martins was a liability. Please describe how, when all four strikers we used today -- three internationals -- did the same amount of work (zero).

Didnt hear any in the gallowgate as I left.

Muted applause, but no booing.

If there were boos those fickle pantomime-attending f***s should be ashamed.

You could definately hear boos from a minority in the Gallowgate, fickle fuckers.

Not a great match, probably just did enough for a draw, but 4-3-3 is going to take a while for the players to get used to, especially at home when playing against more defensive/counter attacking sides.

Thought Geremi was poor and a midfield 3 of Geremi, Smith & Butt is far too defensive for playing at home in this formation. Now Dyer has gone we only have 3 real pacey players (N'Zogbia kind of wasted at LB, then Martins & Owen, who play in the same position and won't be both on the pitch at the same time) and Milner that can dribble really well. Doesn't help with our attacking options, especially on the break.

We are definately short of a creative and goal scoring AM as well as a RB & LB cover.

In the 2nd half we seemed too slow and cautious whenever we did go forward out of our own half, not enough urgency or will to score/win. After about 15mins I'd have changed it by bringing on Cacapa for Smith/Geremi, putting Taylor at RB, Carr at LB, Milner as AM and pushing Zoggy further up as a left forward with Martins on the right.

Didn't like the lack of shooting from the few times we had possession in their 3rd either.

Still a clean sheet (thanks to Harper) and 1 point against the draw specialists from last season isn't the end of the world.

Are you agreeing with me? I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Owen looked totally unfit and possibly scared, Martins was Martins, Viduka looked like a fat old man, and Shola was Shola.

have to say, Shola looked our most dangerous player when he came on, sad, but true

Viduka shouldn't play next game imo, needs to get in better shape, last thing we need is another aging, imobile, egotystical striker guarenteed a place in the team

I AM agreeing with you. FFS, I'm saying it wasn't just Martins, but all of'em, but I'm blaming mainly the midfield, tactics and formation for that, not just the strikers.

I think BS would've learned today not to try this at home again, especially with Emre and Barton returning.

had to happen, only been on the forum 3 years like

plus, the post didn't mention Bramble

I think we're in agreement, then: the 3 CMs played today do not really have the creative potential required to break down stubborn teams at home, particularly when they have a less than ideal front 3 ahead of them. Maybe when Viduka or Owen's fit with Barton/Emre in midfield it would work better. Even Shola through the middle would've created more today, I think.

But when Jose is fit the zog will be in midfield wont he so that would add some creativity.
