  1. I've seen a few of Edgar's performances for the reserves and while he still hasn't had the chance to prove if he is first-team material or not, he is easily the best defender of the reserve 'crop' and would be ahead of Ramage any day of the week IMO. Perhaps an ideal candidate for loaning out- pointless him wasting development years in the stiffs. In a Championship side we'll get a better chance to see his qualities.
  2. Owen was notably disinterested, Dyer was OK while Cacapa didn't have a great deal to do at the back but looked useful when pushing forward into midfield for the last half hour. Not much to the game really, the Blue Star keeper kept the score down with a string of excellent second half saves as they brought on virtually a whole new outfield side. Easily the best player on the pitch was Kazenga Lualua, who is looking a real prospect. Nippy, great technique and doesn't mind getting his foot in either.
  3. I seem to have been hit for £24.99. Where did that extra fiver come from?
  4. Cheers. I'm sat here doing something very dull and you've reminded me of the joys of the sort of in-house training courses i used to have to do and everything doesn't seem so bad! I always thought that a material misstatement was one which would affect the economic decision-making of users of that information. Not sure about the duty of care thing, but the audit procedures undertaken would comfortably cover anything that would affect a takeover decision.
  5. No that's true, but in the grand scheme of things they are fairly minor details. If there are liabilities, they'll be on the balance sheet. Sure auditors won't concern themselves with a few hundred grand here or there on a company like NUFC, but these dubious reports suggest something major which simply can't have been the case if everyone was doing their job. More likely that this lack of spending was always the intention.
  6. This is what has puzzled me with these reports of skeletons in the closet. With nearly a decade of audited plc accounts, there shouldn't be too many big surprises otherwise the lawyers would already have sprung into action.
  7. The fact that Ashley made so much off the float shows that he's a shrewder operator than some of his highly-qualified city detractors suggest. So what if the City will never trust him again? He's set for life.
  8. Now this may just be my memory going nuts, but is there not a payback or renegotiation clause on the stadium loan in the event of a change in ownership? Sure it was in an article about the US financier behind the deals.
  9. You must be thinking of Blue Flames, home of the Northumberland FA ground (where West Allotment play).
  10. They are pretty well backed, I think the plan is to sell off the Wheatsheaf Ground (by Callerton Parkway Metro) with the site becoming a hotel with easy access to the airport. They are certainly ambitious, but will need the fanbase to back it up otherwise once the cash runs out it will be a rapid fall to earth. They should be focusing on survival in the Unibond North rather that getting pretentions of having a professional side.
  11. Exactly the same thing happened at Liverpool- they put their stadium plans on hold after the takeover, then increased the intended capacity.
  12. Too often managers have this dream of building a side and keeping it virtually unchanged for a long spell of dominance. It rarely ever happens and it still amazes me that so many try to go out and build a who team of players under 24/25. Good experienced pros aren't a momentary phenomenon- in a few years you'll see current 'peak performers' in the same bracket. It's a continual process. I'm delighted that we're managing to get some dependable quality players in for a fraction of what we used to spend on 'fingers crossed' wonderkids.

    Jon Jönsson

Maybe one of the Swedens can shed some light on this (on Elfsborg site)- is he off to Toulouse? Sent igår kväll godkände IF Elfsborg att Jon Jönsson besöker Toulouse FC under dagen. Klubbarna har haft en dialog en tid tillbaka och besöket är ett led i en eventuell övergång.

    David Rozehnal

I thought Freddy was more a fan of Collapsed Lung. Eat my goal? I'll eat the lot!
  15. Their financial woes didn't stop them having a wage bill close to £5k a week in a division where half the sides operated on half the amount. Sad to a see a club go, but they went out the same way they got into trouble- terrible financial management. They already had a manager and list of players ready if they got the cash from the sale of the ground. The town is probably better off with a new club under more sensible ownership.
  16. We dont even start pre-season training for a month. We could quite easily have 10 players coming in by then. Not all superstars, but providing the sort of depth you're on about. We won't miss any of the players we've released and the bid for Parker is reasonable. We'll work to the same budget as we would have had without any takeover talk- which in my view is probably not a great deal. I expect most players to be coming in on frees or small sums and if a takeover comes off then the cash will go on a few top-class players rather than a plethora of half-decent ones (who are likely to be little better than the ones knocking around on Bosmans).

    The freebies.

He's on a free. He's coming off the back of his best season for years having remained mainly injury-free His ability on the ball has never been in question. We desperately need a player who can hold up the ball. Signing Viduka does not mean we won't sign any more players of that type. On the flipside when the going gets tough he tends to get sulking and too often lets a game pass him by. There's no guarantee that he won't pick up niggles next season because he's been plaugued by them for years. There's no resale value as he'd be more or less finished by the end of a 2-year deal. No-one's saying he'll be awesome or a guaranteed hit, but I can't for the life of me see why it's not worth a punt when he's out of contract. To put numbers on it, people are talking of £40k a week, say over two years with some bonuses and a nice signing on fee. £5m or so all in? You could spend that and more on a player who's never even kicked a ball in a top division.

    The freebies.

Correction, a fat Aussie wank who scored 19 goals in 37 games last season (that's more goals than any of our strikers).
  19. The FA Press Officer made it clear that in all cases there could be questions posed about England matters only, not club affairs.

    Alan O'Brien.

O'Brien hasn't impressed me when I've seen him either at first team or reserve level. Obviously he has pace, but lack of quality when he gets into the final third is alarming. Possibly one who we could look to loan out for a season but no way should we think about offering a long-term deal.
  21. They did this the other week too. Must have some goal difference by now.
  22. Downing should be in the latter category. He's as much in the comfort zone as Dyer.
