That would constitute a major overhaul of the first team and squad. Can't see us making that many changes without a number of departures.

Guess there'll be some departures then.  :)

I'm still hopeful of Alan Smith leaving.

    Geremi maybe.

    Duff hopefully.

Time for positive thinking Dave don't ruin this.  :aww:

If we are in for another striker I would not be surprised if Smith does go to the likes of Boro.  You would have thought after the midweek game he would have at least made the bench yesterday.

  2. Newcastle are trying to offload flop Damien Duff to bring in Derby star Kris Commons.

Republic of Ireland winger Duff, 29, has been an expensive disaster at St James' Park since a £5million move from Chelsea in July 2006.

And Toon boss Joe Kinnear is under pressure to get Duff off United's crippling wagebill.

Former Nottingham Forest chief Kinnear, who took Commons to the City Ground in July 2004, wants to be reunited with the left-sided Scottish international.

But Wigan boss Steve Bruce is also a big admirer of £3-mrated Commons and is ready to swoop as he looks to spend his transfer windfall following the sales of Emile Heskey and Wilson Palacios.

Bruce and assistant Eric Black have been to watch Commons in the past week and are keen to do a deal.

Bruce has failed to land Reading's Stephen Hunt and Cardiff's Joe Ledley, citing 'crazy prices' as he bids to bolster his squad.

However, Commons is more affordable as Derby try to balance the books after a bad year and Wigan are poised to make an offer in the next 48 hours.

  3. JFK totally clueless again...

Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear on Shay Given's future:

"There's no question that Manchester City want to sign him, we are doing everything we can to keep him.

"Last thing I know was Shay was locked in talks with the chairman and owner and we are waiting for the outcome. It's very difficult times for us.

"Joey Barton has been out for 10 weeks and just come back but looks as if he's going to be out for three weeks with a cracked ankle - and we only have one fit striker. Michael Owen is on crutches and he could be out for six weeks.

"We have a massive game coming this weekend against Sunderland and I don't know whether I have 11 fit players. So many key players are out injured and these are the players you need for a derby game. But we have to bite the bullet and get on with it."

    Sky

With Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby against bitter rivals Sunderland on the horizon and the club locked in a relegation battle, it was the loss of two more key men which was of most concern to Kinnear.

He told Sky Sports: "Michael is now going to be out for at least three weeks and Joey Barton could be out for at least six weeks.

    Daily Mail

Kinnear said: 'It is one thing after another at the moment. The doctor had said six to eight weeks with Michael and 10 for Joey.'

It leaves Kinnear without two of his most experienced players at a time when he could badly do with them.

  5. Not sure if its been posted on here, apologies if it has...

Joe Kinnear is now statistically the worst manager in Newcastle history bar Ossie Ardiles.

Should he lose to the Mackems and West Brom (he couldn't, could he?), he'll drop to dead last.

  6. Dont know the validity of the information but think it is important for people to have the opportunity to do it if they so want to. I suppose the only way to find out is to call the number

Not sure if this is common knowledge but came courtesy of one our lads on site..

right lads ive just put the phone down after talking to the box office and we are not legally bound to the 3 year `offer`, but if you want to cancel and not have your season ticket for this year cancelled you have to do the following:

1, ring box office and inform them of your intentions and pay the discount back you got for this year (mines £49 in the SW corner) before 1st Feb

2, cancel your DD at your bank (just incase)

3, get a reference No` in case of confusion

the lad on the phone was very helpful and very understanding and pointed out that if you did cancel it will NOT affect them sending out your normal offer of renewal in june

I hope this helps and why would we want to show comittment to an owner that doesnt even have the decency to open dialog with his customers and show the comittment he has expected of us.

0191 2611571 before feb 1st and repay your discount.

Maybe suggest telling plenty of people..

Having paid up front last year on Direct Debit for this season (the offer that gave us free cup games) surely I should not have to pay extra if I cancel as this was all bought and paid for before the 450/500/550 carry on this summer?

  7. COLIN Calderwood has officially joined Newcastle United's coaching staff – as first revealed in the Evening Post last week.

The Scot has linked up with fellow former Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear at St James' Park.

Calderwood may combine the role with a part-time position as head coach of the Faroe Islands.

The Faroe Islands Football Association claim Calderwood has agreed to take on the job ahead of a friendly against Iceland in March.

The former Mansfield, Swindon, Spurs, Aston Villa, Forest and Notts County centre-half will be a specialist defensive coach.

Kinnear said: "We have Colin Calderwood on board now, and he will be joining us until the end of the season to bring something else to our backroom team."

It is understood Calderwood held initial talks over the role early last week but played down reports that he was set to join the Premiership club until the deal was agreed.

;D Not sure which defence needs the most work on...

  8. all of top earners have to be sold in the summer or released to get this club back on track

    owen, 6 million a year

    viduka, 3.5 million a year

    smith, 3.5 million

    geremi, 3.5 million

    butt, 2.5 million

    barton, 3.5 million

23.5 million a third of wage budget was spent on these wasters, a totally f***ing disgrace the best ashley can do is try to sell these players asap in my book

You can add Duff to that list as another who drains the club of a hefty salary and offers very little..

  9. YES! No Quashie and some loan developments:

Kinnear also said: "There has been talk about us signing Nigel Quashie but there is no truth in it whatsoever, so you can kick that into touch."

However the manager did say that two loan deals were being discussed. He said: We are looking to bring in two loan players in the next 48 hours. Both are international players, one is Italian and one is Argentinean.

They are not playing in their current side, but we need them at the moment. We are aware that other clubs are talking to them, so we'll have to wait and see.

Lorenzo Amoruso and Claudio Caniggia to join Lovenkrands, Ferguson, Mendes, Boyd, Novo and McGregor?

  10. More than one in three West Ham and Newcastle United fans are considering giving up their season-tickets, according to research.

Virgin Money's Football Fans' Inflation Index, which has tracked match day costs since January 2006, says die-hard supporters could give up their tickets as the credit crunch bites.

While 24 per cent of season-ticket holders are considering cancelling, with three per cent thinking about giving up going to all games and 21 per cent considering cancelling and buying tickets when it suits, the survey says clubs most at risk are West Ham, Newcastle and Blackburn, where as many as 37 per cent are having second thoughts about renewing.

Even fans of Premiership and European champions Manchester United are feeling the pinch with 36 per cent considering giving up season tickets.

Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters Federation, said: "Over the past 15 years football inflation has consistently exceeded ordinary inflation and the industry may well now pay the price for its short-sightedness in allowing that to happen.

"At the end of the day watching football is a leisure activity and it would be very surprising if it was immune from the sharp effects of the recession, particularly at the top end of the game where prices are so high."

  11. Martins appears to have no footballing brain whatsoever but he is arguably the biggest threat in our squad.

I don't think Owen has even looked as good since Martins has not been playing alongside him...

  12. Yeh he hasnt been great at Villa but I think he got off to a pretty poor start with them and lost his place quite quickly. Luke Young has been really good for them and has been filling in for them at left back and doing a really good job which has further limited Shoreys oppurtunities!!

So he'll be full of confidence here!

    The bad news.

Shorey is f***ing gash. He's absolutely no physical presence, no pace *whatsoever* and no idea what to do when he does get forward.

Put it like this. MON prefers to play Luke Young on the wrong side of the pitch, and NRC or Cuellar at RB to avoid playing Shorey. When Freddie Bouma comes back, he'll have even less of a prayer

Please, please, please take him. Actually, if he did go to you, it would make much more sense of the N'Zogbia rumours.

He knew enough at Reading to make him have pretty impressive assists stats for a fullback

    Assists 07/08

    Fabregas 17

    Young 14

    Barry 10

    Kalou 10

    Rooney 10

    Shorey 9

    Bentley 9

    Berbatov 9

    Elano 9

    Nani 9
