Really you think Enrique is setting the world alight? No, but he's by far the best left back we've had since the days of Bernard (Mark I). He's nowhere near the finished article but I'm lost as to why he gets so much abuse. Perhaps you've been watching training along with JFK, someone else who doesn't seem to rate him. Oh meiow! Get your claws back in. His passing was woeful yesterday. Steven Taylor was infinitely worse but Enrique still has a lot of work to do. I would use the term 'erratic' over 'woeful' - some of it was creative, inventive and accurate while others (such as that hospital pass at the start of the second half) were abject and way short of the standard required. Overall though, he covered for other people's mistakes and in turn they (well, Bassong) covered for his couple of ricks (a sliced attempt to clear in the first half springs to mind). I'm just amazed at the vitiriol that some people (not necessarily you Toonlass) spew towards him during the match when we've gone for so long with genuinely awful left-backs. The song Big Yellow Taxi springs to mind... Very good post. I don't understand the abuse he gets either! His erratic passing is the only aspect of his game he needs working on! Played the lovely through ball for Jonas at the death yesterday. He's a very good LB imo. -

We've given away 8 penalties in 21 games. That's a fucking outlandish number if you ask me. No wonder they're shy in the tackle
-
Thing is, Andy Carroll was in the RB position when Cole made the run. Taylor was in the center iirc
-
Geremi is an experienced player, and will understand why he was booed. Wouldn't worry about him. Lien, what about Owen's celebration? what was wrong with it???
-
It was a mixture for sure. Quite certain Zog was booed in some sections when coming on.
-
I wouldn't mind him in midfield, as he's a good footballer, and has a pretty good passing range. Having said that, we finally have a solid stable (ish) defence for the first time in years, and seeing as it's only their first season together, I think the way they have performed is something to be proud of. At times they (as a unit) have struggled to hack the ball clear in recent games, but I think that's mental lethargy symptomatic of the whole team in phases. When they pick up their act and get on top of things, the rest of the team follows suit. I'm not too unhappy with our defence, and I think the current 5 are good to take us into the near future. When Beye's long term replacement is found, I think they're good to take us well into the future, with Enrique potentially becoming the best of the lot.

In a nutshell. Yup. Thread closed

Both goals would have been scored against top defences imo. You guys nit pick a bit too much as if good defenders don't ever concede goals, or concede only from stunning strikes! West Ham's goals were fantastic imo, and yes maybe only Taylor had a chance of picking up Cole who made a superbly timed run. I would say if anything Given should have been mopping up in exactly the same way Rob Green had done the entire match. I haven't read the last page or so, but did anyone notice how well Coloccini managed to spring the offside trap on Bellamy every single time nearly? It definitely looked like a training ground plan, where the other 3 would stay up and let Coloccini be the one to make the decision to step out at the right moment.

No way Guthrie is better than: Oba, Jonas, Beye, Bassong, Coloccini, N'Zogbia, or even Viduka (fit one obviously) in my opinion. He's a decent player. Don't think he is ready to be a starter in a team that is going places (He will grow into that). I think the player I listed above are good enough for that. Pound for pound footballing skills, technique, awareness, drive and passion, Guthrie is better than that lot when it comes to actual application. He has been a breath of fresh air, and having a top class midfielder beside him, we will become much more dominant as he's currently having to do the work of two no matter who he has been paired with. The players you mention may be more talented in certain aspects, but they are no way performing to Guthrie's standards imo (except maybe for Bassong).
-
Maybe I'm blind, or an idiot, but imo after Michael Owen and Shay Given, Danny Guthrie is our best player! He was a class above the rest with his control and reading of the game. He still has a long way to go to polish a few aspects of his game, but he has the character to become a top class international and I for one would hold on to him no matter the temptation. Enrique was brilliant today apart from his usual misplaced passes which he simply HAS to do something about. Otherwise he is more than a capable full back, and actually a very good one. Thought Taylor had a very good game as well. Joined in the attack at every opportunity. Well played. Andy Carroll, considering some of the stick he's got from some of you lot on here lately, stuck two fingers up at the whingers. Hold up play was exceptional for someone who has hardly been involved, and he made his presence felt. Man of the match today imo. Special mention to Damien Duff and Seb Bassong who both had good games. Jonas was once again extremely disappointing. Apart from the first 10 minutes, and his injury time dribble, he was non-existent and ineffective. Coloccini has had better games. Overall, a decent come back, but we really should have had them dead and buried by half time. Bellamy is a cunt

Jose Enrique out for at least three weeks with hamstring injury

correct about the movement ahead of him -
Did you conveniently leave out Maradona?

Linked with a double deal for him and Stephen Quinn (LW) on the Ceefax 338 page. The ginger haired chap? Och. Well (if there's any truth in that), atleast Kinnear has identified that we're short at left-wing. It doesn't matter if you've only got one right-back, so long as you've got four left-wingers - you tend to get by. So it's a big hearty 'phew' from me on this one. We have more left wingers than New Labour. none ?

what a load of bollocks. Mike Ashley is taking the club right back to where we were before the Halls and shepherd found it, and it has been as obvious as the nose on your face for at least the last 12 months. GM is absolutely spot on. The truth hurts you doesn't it? You're not even man enough to take your blinkers off when it comes to Shepherd. he's completely wrong. Shepherd never had full control, for starters. And when the Halls and Shepherd took over the club, they had one foot in the 3rd division and you couldn't sell the club for the price Spurs paid us for Gazza 4 years earlier. Take your own blinkers off, and see that this is the truth. Not the point! NUFC has been dicked around with a fair bit in the last 5 years. Ashley has been here 1 and a half of them. You do the maths. sorry to disappoint you, but only 3 years ago we finished 7th. Only twice between the 1950's and 1992 did we finish seventh or higher. Thats also true. It's also true that we kept all our best players happy and still attracted Englands nr 1 goalscorer to the club during that time. Now. Why don't you be big enough to admit that Ashley is totally screwing the club up, and - never mind this talk of Leeds all the time - taking the club back to where the Halls and Shepherd found it [which is almost as low as Leeds]. One or two people have done this and all credit to them, but one or two notable ones have not and I'm pretty sure won't either. If i'm agreeing with GM, it means i'm openly saying I think Ashley has made a mess of this so far, and unless there's a drastic change in the way he does things, will continue to do so. I'm calling it as I see it. Just as I did back when Shepherd was chairman, and made a complete mess of it starting with the SBR story, and the subsequent dismantling of his team and allowing Souness anywhere near the club.

Agreed. I don't give a fuck how frustrated he might be. He gets paid handsomely for his frustrations. Always a model pro, Shay should have known better.

According to the Arsenal fans he`s not been the same since he came back from the African Nations Cup, very injury prone, cant string 2 consecutive games together. Apparently also he looks far better with a defender that compliments his main weakneses - aerially. When Campbell was in central defence with Campbell dominating in the air and Kolo taking care of the rest and the more tricky players.Gallas and Toure just don`t play well as a partnership. Bit like the Coloccini situation? We need a big centre half that can dominate the aerial balls.....dont think we`d have much chance of getting him anyway. I can see Man City going for him Quite surprised by that. Is there an underlying reason as to why? Hates Gallas http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1103386/Toure-set-quit-Gunners-blazing-bust-defensive-partner-Gallas.html This explains it. He had a bust up with Gallas after the 2-2 draw at Villa and he feels that Wenger is taking Gallas's side. Cherno Samba the perfect partner. agreed. Not sure how true the reports are that he`s unsettled at Blackburn but would be a very good signing for us. 6`5 and 24 years old. Again there would be other clubs after him I`m sure. Never knew the boy wonder was at Rovers!!
