bizzarly would be an improvement on the present situation. You would think so wouldn't you? yet all those Villa fans hate him with a vengeance. i'd contemplate souness instead of kinnear or hughton. I'd contemplate Alan Shearer or Curbishley first. Failing that, if I was a useless fat t*** like Ashley I'd contemplate it's time to clear off and give someone with a bit more football knowledge a go. without trying to recoup asmuch as possible ?
  3. i wonder if he'd have cited his contract had he been s*** and we wanted to sack him because of it. my hatred for many footballers is building. "i want everything in my favour and i don't give a f*** what s*** it causes for others" seem very much the attitude. If it's good enough for Owen why not lesser mortals? doesn't matter who it is, it's twattish. when did owen say he wanted to leave or agitated for a move when under contract ? Didn't Sven Goran quote him in a Sunday paper? Was Owen being paid 5k a week? Has he taken a pay cut to play for someone else? Did Bassong send a brochure to other clubs while still under contract to Newcastle Utd? Lots of interesting comparisons if you want to draw them. owens brochure was in the last 6 months of his contract when he can do stuff like that. don't really see what the other things have to do with it. has he been rubbish would he have said "fair do's i've been cack, rip up my contract it's what i deserve"

  7. just watched it again and if you want to have a go at someone try andy carroll who was closer. to be honest the balldrops to a forward and when it's blasted back in everyone(defenders and attackers) wait to see where it goes.

  11. he's a player the press don't like for some reason. from last seasons "not holding down a place" when at the time he was a virtual ever present to saturdays "he hasn't got a clue where his man is" when he got himself between a a faster player and the goal and forced him wide. not great, not suited for english football but nowhere near as bad as some make out.

  13. Just been going through toffs to get some ideas for my hols and my mind was cast back to the tops I've had. Just wondering if anyone else had some strange tops in their history. Here goes......... Various Nufc from 74-75 with badge and last one being umbro sleeves and blue star. also had a toffs 40's style. Spurs away (yellow with 2 blue half stripes) burnley 70's nice and warm blue with white collar (generic 70's ipswich/everton) Northern Ireland (pre 82' world cup) penarol 70's(toffs) ajax 70's(toffs) Argentina (early 82, worn once...you work it out) holland (early 80's adidas sleeves) PSV (early 90's)

and yet you'd think if you were interested in buying something for a certain price and the person selling was meanwhile disposing of bits of it you might well alter your offer price. Maybe the sales were occurring to get the price to match the bid ? only to the seller. a bit like offering to buy a car and trailer and the seller in the meantime sells the trailer.

I don't think we should sell for £70m either. Its about status and pride as much as anything. If Ronaldo is worth more than our whole club than what does it say? One player for god sake. That's why Ashley holding out for the 100 is important for the club IMO. Who gives a toss about Ronaldo? Honestly. Its about us, not Ronaldo, Man Utd, Micheal Owen or Real Madrid. Us. I don't care if we sell for £1, £100 or £100m....as long as we get that greedy c*** out of Newcastle United! if theres one thing he can't be accused of in relation to NUFC its being greedy.

    Jonas Gutierrez

He didn't create a lot of chances, he wasted a lot though. He did. On the other wing, Duff didn't create anything which is equally worrying but he's escaping criticism because at least he scored a goal. But it's still a problem which needs addressing. I find it stupid that they both played on opposite sides to their natural foot. Duff doesn't have a right-foot at all, now I know he did play there for Chelsea but it's a bit different being in that position with the options he had and being in ours. Duff should at least play on the left and Jonas on the right. Btw I thought Duff played well in the second half when he came in more centrally. The idea is for them to cut in onto their stronger foot and send in a inswinging cross which are generally a bit more difficult to defend against from that position, or to take a strike. Neither of them seemed to do that, so in general I would agree, put them on the flanks that suit their stronger foot. I disagree that the most difficult crosses to defend are those after cutting inside, i think most goals are scored when the winger goes past the full back and either cuts it back or whips it across the face of the goal. Jonas beat the full back consistently which was good but his crosses were weak and as has been mentioned the movement from the forwards was terrible. i think fewer and fewer goals are scored from either sort of wing play in the final third and it's something we haven't been able to let go since ginola/gillespie.
  18. i doubt it would be shearers terms that would stop it. more so other financial demands by shearer.
  19. The only other one I can remember is when he charged right out to the edge of the area, jumped over Taylor and punched the ball clear. Don't think that was entirely needed. or the weak as piss touch he got to a corner where he hed to tip over the resulting shot.

    PROMOTIONOMETER

just had a look at the reading team that drew with forest yesterday and it doen't seem like too long a go they had a team recognisable to me. should we get 3 points off them and sheff weds it would be a very good start and hopefully fire some belief into the club.

Someone listens to Talk Sport and reads too much Louise Taylor. The only people who spout that s**** are the lazy journos who don't have a clue about the area. I think that's his point entirely. He's not saying that's what he thinks himself he's saying that's what other people think and it's for exactly the reasons you've identified. Thank you Indi, that is exactly my point. The press in the UK have so much power, as Napoleon said "I fear the newspapers more than a thousand bayonets." This is a perfect example of the power of the press and the sponge-like lazy readers. Back in the day when Keegan had the team playing flowing, attacking football we were everyone's favourite second club, the neutral loved to watch us and Sky dubbed us 'The Entertainers'. Purely because Sky termed us in such a fashion many more would have turned on to see what the deal was. Like everything else in this country, something/someone gets built up too high and it's time for jealousy and envy to kick in and some sections start to knocking down the edifice they have built. Before you know it everything has come full circle and the object of previous adulation is now one of scorn and ridicule. The press do all that, others just read it and absorb. That's where the image of Newcastle United is now, not very popular. Not winning anything also contributed to the fall from grace, or accelerated it at least. the press turned on us because we stopped being the entertainers and weren't some upstarts who had just been promoted. once we started behaving like billy bigshots they were going to treat us as what we were, a big under achieving club which in some quarters thought itself bigger than it was.

How do you know Mrs O'leary wouldn't have achieved at least as good results? how do you know Mrs Ferguson or Mrs Mourinho wouldn't have achieved as good as their husbands ?
