  1. haha, some people never learn. I'm sure premiership quality footballlers will be playing in the sunday leagues tomorrow. We might find a quality centre forward playing for the Blue Star for a couple of quid. Go get 'em lads they're out there somewhere. I didn't realise that Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourhino had been getting it wrong by buying quality footballers all these years. Slap their wrists. Quite ironic that the 2 strikers most valuable to the club at the present time were "panic signings/trophy signings" bought by the previous regime, but I'll let you absorb that one. not sure what you're on about NE5, too early in the morning? it's not an attack on the previous board, far from it but as you've raised it (inadvertently) one thing i would say about my point is this; for all the merits of the martins/owens/luques etc... and regardless of how they turned out in the end if you think that under shepherd's tenure the squad was ever balanced i'm sorry but you're a f***ing balloon ferguson/mourinho would build a side capable of winning things before they spaffed their load on one player at the expense of the team, i'm fairly certain of that, so would wenger... i'll let you absorb that oh if you'd have read it properly you'd have seen i was stating that it would be ironic that for all the talk of ashley being better than shepherd if ashley went and did exactly the same thing they criticise shepherd for, thought you'd see that pal oh, I see it alright. Pal. FWIW, I don't think anybody is a WOW signing and never have. A quality player is a quality player full stop. I don't think the current situation is amusing at all, but did find it hugely amusing when people said the club did nothing but sign panic signings and trophy signings. 3 days left, and one more player down. Good fee or not. Keegan may have put his judgement on the line with the "timing" of this [what bell does that ring ?] sale - and I find it hard to believe he has done it without being confident of bringing in a replacement who is better - but thats my entire point. Why does it look like he is selling to buy rather than - as pointed out earlier - buying to strengthen the team and squad which is what progressive clubs with the biggest gates ought to be doing ? erm, NE5, everything you've put in bold there is just my original post regurgitated basically what the f*** are you arguing about? wtf are you arguing about then ? I agree with you that the irony would be lost on many people, but I always said that the club just bought and sold players like anybody else, only with [quite rightly] higher standards than most. I don't have a problem with buying a better player than one you have, you move the replaced player on and keep looking to strengthen the other areas at the same time. This is totally different to only concentrating on one or two problem areas, you always should be looking to improve all positions. Our signings are great, but it doesn't hide the fact that if we have even one injury up front, we are buggered. Not to mention that - as you are talking about a balanced team here - our strikers are as unbalanced as any time I can remember, as Viduka will never play 25 games never mind perform well in about 25-30 games which is the basic requirement. Sadly, there are still others with their heads in the sand. Some of whom claim to have supported the club during the dark days of Westwood, McKeag too etc and actually appear to think we should be happy to go back to dabble around the basement and free transfer market, buying Spurs reserve players again instead of "trophy signings" i'll bet most want a balance. to buy the best we can regardless of price but within what we can afford. ie your method of "the price doesn't matter, pay it back later" is for most, myself included, a recipe for longterm disaster.
  2. that was some while ago. surely his defence team can put his liverpool city centre adventure down to the knock on the head he received off atouba.
  3. the old board would never have been in for this sort of thing.
  4. we already have. it's called "don't buy it".....it's why their sales fall.
  5. madras

    Spurs in crisis !

a good few spuds have said that aswell
  6. the write it to fill copy. they aren't the muppets. the muppets are the mugs who buy it (both financially and metaphorically)
  7. i reckon that would go the route of fc united of manchester with a new club being formed to catch the support.
  8. arsenal, darlo and carlisle win accum (£5to win £22-54) arsenal to keep clean sheet (£10 evens) marseilles, schalke ,valencia (£10 to win £27)
  9. whereas i'd be smart and tell them the whole regime has to go as milner was the new garrincha.
  10. i'd probably go on more country walks and my liver would smile.
  11. is "cock" an insult ?....why so ? i love mine and the world would be pretty desolate without them.
  12. brummie mate.could you do us a favour and please post about now for any villa fans who look in that this isn't a case of slagging off a player when he goes and to vouch that it's probably an even split between those who just don't rate him and those who do but think villa have been massivly done on the deal.(if the final figure is any more than 10mill)
  13. That Milner kid at Villa can play Striker and either Wing. This wow signing best be really WOW otherwise we are screwed. can play either wing and was a striker on tuesday
  14. That's what amuses me about some of the comments in here. Some people think as we have £12 million for a player (if that figure is correct, if it goes through and minus the money to be passed onto Leeds) then we'll automatically sign a better player despite the fact we aren't in Europe and once a player of such stature becomes available the clubs who are willing to pay greater wages will join the chase. We've already signed one better player in Guttierez. Yes - one. We've been beaten to the signatures of several others though. allegedly
  15. Why Villa? They heard that a player they wanted was officaly put on the transfer list by his club due to his request and signed him, they've done nothing wrong imo. They blatantly tapped him up. when you tap someone up it's in order to get them to want to leave and drive the price DOWN
  16. wrong. it's a risk about how much they feel the need to replace him straight away up against getting over the top cash for a player (jonas, germei, duff can all play there) but the club could have said no.(however if 12mill is true i hope they don't say no). there is no "fault". the situation has been brought about by greed though.
  17. i don't necessarily think we have someone lined up but if someone offers you subsatntially more than someone is worth, and that player isn't vital to you,you take it.
  18. had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway had he not and villa bid 12mill. the club would have sold him anyway
  19. i have a major worry about this deal considering the way it went last time and could explain the ridiculous fee. picture it......fee is agreed, personal terms are agreed, milner travels down there and passes the medical.then o'neil turns round and says "errrrr no actually, we've decided against it at the last minute"
  20. So - we may now have £12M to spend from the sale of Milner. The Oxford English Dictionary definition of a "Selling Club" - (Can only buy when they sell . . so NO PROGRESS ever to be made) Waddle / Beardsley / Gasgoigne - the good old days are BACK! (Don't have a go at me!) We didn't have to sell Milner to buy, we're selling him because he wants out. If Man U had sold Ronaldo, would that have made them a "Selling club"? You need to look at the circumstances of the sale before sticking a label on like that. I understand all that. However, the evidence is that Ashley has been reluctant to seriously spend before now. If he does spend now - I wonder if that will be a mere coincidence? the evidence is we have paid more than we ever had for a defender and had a club record fee accepted for another player isn't it ?
  21. I don't really blame Milner, I think he'd have stayed given any encouragement. He gambled and he lost basically. i blame him because he signed a contract last year and wanted a better deal because someone else got one. that someone else was in the last year of his contract (the normal time for renegotiating contracts). pure and simple greed IMO. It could be argued he was worth a better contract (not my opinion though) and he probably thought it was worth a go to ask for one. In any case, it's a good day for the club. A great fee for an average player, and a message sent out to the rest of the squad. Be careful what you wish for... he agreed to the contract and knew what it meant,he also knew that it meant should he play poorly and not be in the first team squad he'd still get paid at that level. it cuts both ways but players now want it all one way. i stand by my "pure greed" opinion.

(Don't have a go at me!) on the other hand every club will sell any player if they are offered far more than their worth.
