What the hell is this thread actually about? Well decky, its about Mort saying that the club won't sign players to appease the fans. Some of us are wondering just who he is talking about and discussing the merits of who we think he is referring to. Some people are just being daft and obstructive though, then they will accuse others of dragging it all down. Some people actually think that these signings to "appease the fans" are actually the whole idea of making good signings Shame its all gone a bit off track like, but I for one was quite intrigued by this one for a while. i read it that he is talking about the situation we were in in jnauary when some were clamouring for players...any players regardless of wether they were better than those we already had or not.

he did in the second half and we even had a spell in that game where we tried to pass and use vidukas touch instead of lumping it on to his head 40yds out. He set up both of Viduka's goals in the first half iirc. Second half he played further up the pitch, we brought Martins on and kept hitting them on the counter attack. played better in the second half for me....thats probably when i thought "if we play him...play him in midfield"

outside the top 4 we are as good an option as anyone...the UEFA cup isn't that much of a draw.
-
i don't remember him being a good full back (not even sure he was bought as a full back) at best an average defender with a ferocious if often wayward shot.

My dad wanted my christian and middle names to be Anthony Green, but my mam had none of it...bitch. interesting. that would have made you jennifer anthony green jeavons.

d'you want more dinner time games on sundays ?

It's not just about having the confidence in him to pull off a trick, I just think we're at that stage of the season where seeing what a few of our fringe players can do wouldn't do us any harm since we don't have much to play for. I'd be tempted to give the likes of Carroll and Edgar a start in one of our remaining games, just to give us a better idea of what they're about. i think he will for those two in particular and maybe lua lua. but not all three in one game.

haha Just been reading through their forum just now and its incredible the amount of bitterness, jealousy and pure hatred they have about us. Whats funny is that theres about 7 McShane threads on every page of their forum  http://www.readytogo.net/smb/forumdisplay.php?f=86 aye. they don't get irony. they had a large thread on there about (and they have a point) mong NUFC fans waiting behind to goad them on their buses instead of going straight for a pint to celebrate without realising the delicious irony that the last time they won at home against us you had to hang around even to get a pint due to the licensing laws in 1980. And theres more...... I'm still sniggering at KK and predominatly the mags actually. Why? Because the delusional b'stds are an established prem team and could only beat us 2-0 with a weak team playing for us! They where poor as piss in the 2nd half and tactically very weak! A lucky 2 goals in the first does not make a good team , get a grip they are poor and in 2 years time will be doing a Derby County!! mackems.gif mackems.gif Was it really 1980 - jeez I was still a daft young lad then ! Instead of blaming everything on McShane they'd be better off having a look at the guy who bought him and the rest of the championship standard squad for ridiculously inflated prices. Keano theres only one Keano, Keano............................................. been thinking for a while keano might have got away with a bit because of who he is and he does give good interview (and he did well getting them up) but there play and his transfer record make you think next season will be make or break for him.

be interesting to see if keegan can keep them at a high thempo and wanting it as opposed to end of season nowt to play for stuff.

i'm an atheist who hates the idea that bead jigglers etc should have anything changed so we have to fit in with them but i'll back this if it means we have no more matches before 3pm

nailed on now you've said that

Milner's been awful all season. even his two goals were the result of a mis-hit cross and an airkick that put off the spurs defence. there's a reason he has no votes. that reason is probably cos Gejon hasn't voted yet. milner was better than the majority pre-keegan (which isn't saying much) and gave it a go whilst the rest didn't seem to give a fuck.
-
1. beye (played well from about his 3rd game) 2.owen (owen of old since keegan) 3.milner (only one who still gave his all in the darkest of days)
-
I'd be happy with Kuyt like. Underrated imo. To replace who though? Not as clinical as Owen, not as athletic/unpredicatable as Martins and can't hold the ball up/win headers/hold players off like Viduka. I'm not totally against signing Kuyt but he wouldn't blow my socks off to be honest. As for Riise - :thdn: almost enough to give roeder credit for not going for kuyt
-
i'd be after a dragutinovic (spelling ?) type signing...experienced,can play at centre half aswell as full back and probably happy enough to be a squad player.

Oh my you cant even spot a tongue in cheek remark. It is not Man Utd fault if the Arsenal board dont trust Wegner to splash out big on a player or Wegner has doubts about signing big after the limted success of big buys like Jeffers, Reyes & Wiltord. Arsene Wegner has not made Arsenal a big club or made them punch above there weight as they have always been a big club, there history tells you this. As Man Utd/Sir Alex are the most successful club in the Premier League history I guess what they do is the best way towards sustainable success. indeed. Their current attacking strength has cost them around 80m quid ie Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Saha not to mention Carrick, Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson to back them up. Must be over 100m and just to show even the best managers drop a huge clanger, Veron. Still, I'm sure that Chris Mort has a better way. Also add the best team we have seen at Newcastle in living memory, which almost won the title, and almost the entire team was bought some of them big buys, the biggest of the time. And topped off with the worlds most expensive player, which nobody turned their nose up at and would undoubtedly gone on to do the trick had it not been for the manager leaving the club. You can't get much more proof than this, its just amazing the people in this thread who have defended the prudent method. Lets put it this way, it ONLY works if you have a one off able to make it work like Wenger. Lets wait & see in the summer. Hopefully you are right, but isn't that what has been happening ? People are pleased that there seems to be a common sense approach to running the club now (you can take that how you like by the way). Lets wait and see what happens in the summer, instead of writing them off as not knowing what they are doing before they've had the chance to prove you wrong. This is a massive summer for us (again) & I reckon they'll get it right. common sense ? I know what you are driving at, but I call it unambitious. If we do well in the transfer market, it will be down to Keegan, just like the last time he was manager. so if keegan spends £100million it will be down t him but when robson spent on bellamy and robert etc it was down to our board ? oh and where does ambition end and recklessness start ? with good judgement by the manager, which to an extent the board can't control, they just have to back him as their appointment or sack him. You think you've seen mediocrity in recent years ? Well, you haven't. What you've seen is a club aiming for the top places and not succeeding. Real mediocrity is a club happy to drift along in no mans land. Especially when its a club like us who should be punching with the other big boys all the time. Ruling out the buying of immediate first team players when you are struggling, and operating a sell to buy " policy, is the policy of the 2nd rate clubs. when was this done ?can't have been last summer as we did buy players and couldn't have been january as we agreed a fee for woodgate and the manager said he couldn't get anyone better than who we already had (unless keegan is lying)
-
its where Mr Spoon is
-
can't see the bit where he says we'll sign poor players
-
Not if you hadn't actually gone home from the night before. (Done that a few times too, quite strange watching the sun come up with a drink in your hand.) not strange at all, lovely in the summer.

You do know that it was the failed share issue that almost bankrupt the club and it was Newcastle Breweries who gave the club something like £500,000 to avoid it, don't you? eeer........as I put in to buy shares, and you said you didn't......... a failed share issue that failed to raise half of 2.5m quid says everything I'm afraid about where the club was in comparison to where it is now. Thanks. not where the club is now but where it was when shepherd left ie massivly in debt with falling revenues and little sign that on the pitch was going to get better. yes thay had done well for us previously but by the end that board wasn't doing us any good. thanks

y'joking? been signed up to them for a year
