and last season ? we know he can be great but overall.............juries out! Aye, and five years ago he was f****** shocking, tbh. Couldn't even make the reserves. was he,honestly cant remember, remember him killing us up here in the 4-3 a while back You know what I mean, player's change. his last season for citeh he was very good till the transfer talk,he's been pants for chelsea till this season. the best way to judge a player is on recent form,as such he is englands first choice right sided midfielder Um. I see. Well, that was my point, you wazzock. and thats exactly what i was saying you twerp

Which to drop then? Someone who makes few and scores many, or someone who makes many and scores few? try to find the one that works best. that is the managers job not a drunken fans. err owen plays

owen and rooney could well be a gerrard/lampard situation. two very good players who can't work together so one has to give way for a lesser player that works better for the team.
-
Why?? When he is good he is very good but he does make some horrible mistakes. Would rather have Reina in goal than Shay in a penalty shootout though rather tanni gray thompson than given in a penalty shoot out

got a feeling "fergie, fergie shut your mouth" might be ringing round a few terraces soon

Aye, because he struggles in the Premier League, like. at international level. can't see anything in barry that makes me think he can play for England. england have enough players with average technique and don't need any more of the scott parker, lee bowyer, gareth barry brigade. Carrick's in a different league to him, i'm afraid, and he is run of the mill at international level. Frankly, you're talking bollocks. Germany alone have proved that you don't need to have 11 Maradona's on the pitch to progress in World Cups and Euros. Even the german midfielders have movement, control and short passing that puts our lads to shame. i think barry is your typical english midfielder who only looks good playing at a helter skelter pace. so a good player for an O'Neill team. you've got to assess players on the international stage by a different set of criteria and i don't think barry has an ounce of what you need. english fans are always mystified at how players who are average in the premiership can look so good at international level, but it is a different style of game. just cos a player looks good/bad in the domestic league doesn't mean it will translate onto a different stage. fair enough, looks like i was wrong about Barry. not convinced he'll do long-term tho, israel and russia arenn't exactly stellar opposition, and likewise, i wouldn't want Heskey in the team based on the last two games. at the moment i think hargreaves and carrick are better but barry should certainly be in the squad. Carrick has done absolutely nothing in the international stage when given a chance and has been rather average for Man U too. No way Carrick is better than Barry has been. i've never seen what is so special about carrick

What's that got to do with anything? He's our player now, why shouldn't we play to his strengths? Play to his strengths yes, you should always do that with your strikers, but don't go buying players to get the best out of him when we don't know whether he'll be staying or going whenever the window opens up. It just doesn't sound smart to me. Who do we know is staying? Do tell. We don't know, the club does though with most players - Owen isn't one of those because of his clause. Neither do i, that's why i said we should play to his strengths. All i said was that we shouldn't go buying players to get the best out of him when he might be off when the window opens. and as someone pointed out,who can we guarantee will be there ?

and as if by magic......................

the deadline has passed, come next summer he'll be entering the last year of his contract so we may well be lucky to get that ammount

If you're looking for the best example of "over-rated", it's right there. Good argument, you've got me. Buffon's vastly over-rated tbh. I would imagine that most people who claim he's the best in the world have seen him play all of twice. How often have you watched him out of interest? It wasn't an argument. Buffon has been around for donkeys years so naturally i have seen him many a time. He's commanding, has great reflexes, he's great on crosses, never seems to make a blunder... and basically has no apparent weakness. I'd like to hear which part of his game you think is overrated tbh because your opinion stumps me. The best goalkeeper i've ever seen without a doubt. The "TV saves" fool a lot of people to be honest. In my opinion he punches and parries far far too often, where a simple catch (although not looking as good) would make more sense. Don't get me wrong, I do think he's a class keeper, but I've spoken to numerous people who claim he's the best in the world, and then admit that they've hardly seen him. I think he was actually a better keeper at Parma. He is better than Given though, as he commands his box much better. I think both Cech and Reina are better keepers though. People argue that you can't say Cech is the best, because of the defence which plays in front of him. Can the same not be said about a £34m keeper in a Juve/Italy team? Best keeper I've ever seen is Schmeichel. Nobody else comes close. what does "commands his box "actually mean ? Basically organising the defence, and knowing when to come for crosses and when to stay on his line. Missed the fact that Cech's distribution is better too again that could go down to what given has had to work with. Perhaps so, but you can only judge what you can see, surely? Do you think Given's decision making and distribution is better than Cech/Buffon/Reina? no but i'd say he's a better shot stopper and better off his line as a sweeper than cech or reina. haven't seen enough of buffon (i'll not even use the regular wearing of a pink top to count against him)
