Ive a mate from Wimbledon way on, lived up here for about 35yrs (long time NUFC season ticket holder btw) and if we are in a busy pub I find it so difficult to understand him because it's a struggle to hear him clearly and concentrate on what he's saying. It's not use of slang or anything like that but the pronunciations of the same words. I have to change my own speech if I go as far as York, we've family friends from Lincoln who often just glaze over and look for translations.

It was and their Police were quite obliging. They'd stop the train, buses, vans etc at Thornaby and tell you " there's the Boro lot, if you want to have a go then crack on, we're not getting involved". The invitation was turned down. I got caught out, probably 83/84. There'd been bother in the street behind our end and we got split up, then the police sent me the wrong way to the train station so I was on my own. Got sussed out by a couple of their lot, got a couple of kicks up the arse to goad me, just about to take a pasting when 2 monsters came to my rescue and sent them running. 2 bouncers from the town, I remember one worked Manhattans and that's where we drove back to.
