England's lack of width was a big opportunity missed - especially given the way the Germans defended crosses. When we swung two or three in at the end of the first half, they were absolutely all over the place. I think they would have really struggled with Peter Crouch and what I would have given to have Beckham available off the bench after half time.

Cricket and tennis don't operate the same technology at all levels - tennis doesn't even do it across the same tournament! I can see the argument for not having it in the Premiership because you don't have it in League Two but big international tournaments are pretty much their own masters. No excuse.

Agreed. The Germans were the better team but they would have never scored two goals like they if you guys hadn't pushed up so much. They probably would have scored because they were playing well, but nonetheless, if the second half starts at 2-2 it's a whole different match. I agree but on the other hand, the way England pushed up for that free kick at 2-1 was suicidal and stupid. We had them under the cosh at that point and I could definitely see us getting an equaliser (might have needed half a dozen before one counted though).

I don't think anyone realistically "expects" to beat the Germans. I think we will if we play to our potential though.

I thought we created a shedload of chances and only poor finishing and some terrific goalkeeping stopped us winning the group. The Germans won't do what the other three sides have and put men behind the ball and that will suit us down to the ground.

They have a young midfield. The midfield three who aren't Schweinsteiger have less than 30 caps between them.

I was hoping that the German team we beat in the 2008 friendly would be of a similar make up but only three of them featured.
