it stands for Queen Park Rovers. At risk of a whoosh, Rangers* ! Rangers park rovers ? Queens Range Rovers -
He's a shrewd journalist in that he realises that you can win just as many readers by writing what people want to hear as you can by writing a load of controversial, complaint inspiring nonsense like the majority of journalists do. That article is just that, what a lot of people want to hear. Or what some spoilt numpties don't like to hear... The last sentence of bobyule wasn't there when I first replied. What a load of nonsense. Reducing Keegan's managerial credentials on a lack of trophies is so ignorant that you hardly can take it serious. Anyway. Football isn't about winning, it's about how you play. © Johan Cruijff I'd agree the last sentence of bobyule's post isn't right at all. Well taking a look at the records, I see that Cruyff won 24 trophies as a player, and 11 as a manager. You don't get a haul like that if winning isn't important to you. Winning shouldn't be the only thing, but it is important. Surely. There's a difference between being a good manager and being a winner. A winner has a bit of steel which takes them through the inevitably dodgy times when things aren't going well and everyone's saying how crap you are. It also helps if you have good ideas and good judgement that you feel you can rely on. That way when you're under pressure you still think clearly. For me, Keegan fails on both counts. 3 different Keegan teams with 3 different clubs trounced the opposition in the league they were in the season after he started managing them. But he only came 2nd with us & couldn't win the premiership with Man City either. What a loser.

Really? Never come across this phrase in my life, either spoken or in print, from anyone ever! Is that the best he can do? As windups go it's a desperate effort. Geordie (and cockerney) Blubber? http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9576/38ec0c459b0a9aa509e3d18.jpg

Billy Bragg is a tediously boring politically correct prat who seems to be believe he has musical talent. He's got less musical talent than my farts. And my farts are musical only to me, and I accept that - he doesn't accept his musical limitations (he even kept referring to himself in a radio doc about the great Woody Guthrie FFS ! But ruining football ? Just another example why this prick's comments are moronic, and typical of the southern (and Manchester) based spite. But they're treated as interesting, and not the uneducated spiteful rants, which they are. Irony. Bragg wrote a book about reclaiming national pride from the BNP & their ilk, so English people can show pride in their country without feeling ashamed or worried that they'll be seen as racists. I've not read it but get the feeling a lot of it used the changes in the support of team England as a positive example. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6141770.stm Not sure what the writer or Phil have against it though. Too "PC" I guess.

I was going to say that the Keegan haters would just use this as a justification of their belief that Keegan can do no wrong some in people's eyes, and that for those people the rights and the wrongs of this case are irrelevant. But the article Tooj copied missed off this very relevant 1st paragraph:
-
How long before they put a paypal link on the official website for donations, with a percentage bar showing how much more they need this month to keep the club out of administration?
-
I knew it was Caulkin when I got to the bit where he had a completely irrelevant dig at H&S. Used to be his trademark but he's been slacking on it recently.
-
I blame Gazza. A generation of men grew up thinking it was ok to cry in public.

The paper that HATES Newcastle:

Unfortunately, Simon Bird gives some of our support too much credit. There's also this from 2 weeks ago

booooooooooo - not yooooo gary - boooooooo?

Wasn't the argument at the time though, that with Robert, Ambrose, Viana, Dyer, Jenas & Bowyer, we needed someone in the "holding role". Speed was still more of a goal threat than all but Robert from that list even when he left though. Dyer had his moments I guess. He was hardly prolific when he left though, and nor was he for Bolton for a couple of seasons. He was slowing down, and at almost 35 it's not hard to see why you'd want to think about replacing him with someone younger (but mature enough for the responsibility of the role) when you're a team attempting to get into the top 4. 97-98 Newcastle United 1 Goals, 13 Games (-) 98-99 Newcastle United 4 Goals, 38 Games (-) 99-00 Newcastle United 9 Goals, 36 Games 1 Goals, 2 Games (UEFA Cup) 00-01 Newcastle United 5 Goals, 35 Games (-) 1 Goals, 7 Games 01-02 Newcastle United 5 Goals, 29 Games (-) 1 Games 02-03 Newcastle United 2 Goals, 24 Games 1 Goals, 11 Games (Champions League) 03-04 Newcastle United 3 Goals, 38 Games 2+11 Games (Champions League+UEFA Cup) 04-05 Bolton 1 Goals, 38 Games (-) 05-06 Bolton 4 Goals, 31 Games 5 Games (UEFA Cup) 06-07 Bolton 8 Goals, 38 Games (-) A lot of hindsight and a certain amount of rewriting of history going on in the last couple of pages. Like Robson himself, just because the replacement didn't work out doesn't mean the decision to get rid was wrong.

Your description of the article is not at all accurate, is it? The message is that people should think carefully about who they call a hero, and it's a fair enough statement, in life as in football. Should I consider all people who get cancer to be heroes? or all referees? or only those referees who get cancer and referee a game they couldn't possibly have their mind fully focused on? If Keegan had cancer would it be ok for him to sue the club? Or would his wife have to have leukaemia & he have to have played non league football as a player too? It's a ludicrous attempt to put Keegan in a bad light by contrasting his situation with someone you would naturally feel sympathy for and pretending there's some comparison to be made. Fortunately it's only the simple minded who fall for this kind of stuff. Unfortunately there seem to be enough of them out there to keep papers like the people going.

I'm not one of those by the way, I just think the song is stupid. While you're on your crusade you should remind people that the "Blaydon" Races were actually at Stella Haugh and stopped in 1916, so unless they're over 93 they are lying when they say they went there, and unless they are 147+ certainly didn't go on 9/6/1862. Thick Geordie bastards
-
This fits well into this thread I think. The People tastefully compares Keegan leaving to getting cancer: http://www.people.co.uk/sport/kidd/

How do you know any of the people singing it were geordies? Did you ask them where they were born to check it was north of the Tyne? Rather a parochial assumption on your part don't you think? http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/2694/200pxpearlykingandqueen.jpg Derek Llambias & Mike Ashley, pleased after their team's 5-0 victory.
-
Don't get it. Am I being thick or is the joke in what the filling is? Or are they taking the piss because their slogan is "you choose" and KEEGAN NEVER GOT TO CHOOSE HIS PLAYERS Or because they are doing a new low price menu and ASHLEY LOVES LOW PRICE PLAYERS Or is it because they think they are the BITB and OUR SUPPORTERS ARE THE BITB (probably wouldn't go down well in manc)
-
Dream on. This has nowt to do with the sale of the club. While not settled any potential owner would insist the liability of this claim was Ashley's responsibility. Also, ready yourself for the fact that once a decision is made by the arbitration panel it will almost certainly be contested by the losing party unless it's a relatively small amount agreeable to both sides.
-
The club will go into administration and Keegan will get the club by default instead of his compensation.

He quite publicly stated he wouldn't have taken it with the terms on offer though. Don't blame him tbh, mental situation to work in. It's fairly easy to say you wouldn't have taken the job after you weren't even offered it. You generally don't get offered jobs you've already rejected. Why do you reckon Ashley rejected Venables after seeking him out to interview for the job? Did he just think Joe would be a better option? He rejected it before they told him they didn't want him, did he? I've no idea. He made it sound like he did and gave a perfectly legitimate reason for why most managers wouldn't take the job on, but then you could say he would do that wouldn't he. I repeat though, if he was rejected after he was interviewed, why do you think Ashley (or Wise as ED(F)) thought on interview Venables was not suitable for the job, but subsequently that JFK was? Did Joe win because of his PR savvy?

I think that was the excuse he originally gave. Later he was reported to have said something about not wanting to go near us because of the general fan turmoil and dummy-spitting. In the end, only someone with no hope of any other employment was prepared to take the job, which I don't think can simply be blamed on Ashley and Wise. So explicit direct quotes are an excuse, and unconfirmed hearsay is the real reason. Ok. You must have missed it before, but perhaps you'd like to answer this then? Did you want us to do poorly back then? I'm not sure I understand.
-
That's a staggering statement. It would have found that Keegan was forced out. How can he still be blamed? How does getting compensation prove he did nothing wrong though? "did nothing wrong by walking out." != "did nothing wrong." RCP

With their name being dragged through the mud all over the press that'll be why West Ham did so poorly last season and couldn't get taken over then. I must have missed the bit where West Ham fans collectively spat out the dummy and started a boycoutt over their infallible god-like hero Curbishley. You really hate Keegan don't you? No, he really hates Newcastle supporters, as going by that it's US to blame for the difference between what happened at NUFC & what happened at WHUFC. BTW how has this supposed "boycoutt" affected the club Ozzie? The boycoutt which saw us have the highest ever attendance for a team relegated in the UK & the 6th highest average attendance in England this season. The turmoil definitely affected our chances of getting a decent interim replacement after KK legged it. It may also have affected the sale, but who can really say whether any buyers were put off by the prospect of a fractious, difficult-to-satisfy fan base? I'm sure it makes us look a less attractive prospect, though. How could it make us more likely to find a buyer? [b[No, the fact Ashley was only offering a 1 month contract affected the managerial appointment. [/b[On the second point, see my edited post above. Venables said otherwise. O RLY?
